Like, a big part of the appeal of academia is that you are Perceived under a very specific set of circumstances (teaching, research presentation, public facing work if you go that route) and the rest of the time you are Not Perceived.
Forget tenure or h-index. I have reached the true mark of academic prestige. This academic term I teach in a classroom where I can control the temperature.
