Forward Guidance: PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a ‘weakness’ in address to Canadians It is pretty rare to see Prime Ministers of Canada make this kind of direct appeal...and the sentiment expressed is one that I never thought I would see in my lifetime. Threats, corruption and intimidation: Is the Bishnoi gang calling shots at Cricket Canada? When I lived in Jamaica I had the good fortune of learning a bit about cricket. Great times were had at Sabina Park watching the West Indies team play. Canada has some cricket going on...in my town it seems to be mostly pick-up games. And we have an interesting history of the game as well. See The long history of Canada vs West Indies cricket “might” continue this summer.

JD Vance dismisses claims US is interfering in Hungarian election US vice-president says on visit to Budapest ‘we had to show’ support for Viktor Orbán, as opposition leads polls * Hungary elections: what is at stake and who is likely to win? JD Vance has pushed back against claims that the US is interfering in Hungarian politics, describing the accusations as “darkly ironic”, as a set of polls suggested the opposition Tisza party could win a supermajority in the upcoming elections. After spending his first day in Budapest excoriating the EU and accusing it of being behind one of the “worst examples” of foreign interference, the US vice-president spent part of Wednesday morning speaking at a thinktank and educational institution linked to Hungary’s leader, Viktor Orbán. Ukraine’s White Book: should be required reading by Julian Knysh | April 6, 2026, In wartime Kyiv, books are rarely just books. They can be testimony, warning, field manual, and act of resistance all at once. That is the atmosphere in which Media Center Ukraine launched “The White Book: Navigating the Russian Propaganda Minefield” on March 18 – not as an abstract study of media manipulation, but as an essential guide forged in the country that has spent decades living under the pressure of Russian lies, and more than ten years under their most violent modern form.

Operation Save Orbán: Trump deploys Vance to Hungary U.S. President Donald Trump gives a final heave to try and keep under-pressure Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in power.

Who the hell do they think they are? They’ll whine about a Canadian tariff ad and then, with no sense of shame do this…over and over again in any country they feel like.

Perhaps the only positive is that Vance is such a bully that the good people of Hungary will be put off by the attempt.

2026 US National Trade Estimate Report The US National Trade Estimate Report on Foreign Trade Barriers comes out every year and details what the US Administration views as foreign country barriers to US trade. This year's report on Canada has a number of new issues, related to the trade disruption the Trump Administration has wrought, and the Canadian reaction to it. As a negotiator, I suppose it's always interesting to know the issues on your negotiating partner's mind, and how they characterize them.

How many more chances will the world get at saving the WTO? I spent some time working for Canada on WTO negotiations. My first Ministerial Meeting was the "Battle in Seattle". I have some understanding of how difficult it is to land consensus in the organization. While many had already declared the WTO effectively dead a while ago, I still held some hope that the current international mood would galvanize countries to cobble together something positive at the meeting to allow the international organization, and all those who labour for it, to hold their heads up just a bit.
