On the last day of our meteorological winter, 3 Sand Martin on Clifton pit were a big ‘pick me up’ after what seemed like a long, dark and very wet winter. Also 45+ Pochard and the drake Tufted x Pochard hybrid still.

Out of county the smallest male Merlin I’ve ever seen was a pleasant surprise nr Saintbury #GlosBirds on Monday. Back on the patch a drake Aythia hybrid presumed ‘Pochard x Tufted’ was on Clifton main pit this morning #WorcsBirds

Hi Holly, having seen your fabulous artwork, I wondered if you’d share what brand of coloured pencils you are using, I’d like to have a go myself. Keep up the great work.

Cliftons 1st Great Northern Diver from December 2025 returned this morning, albeit briefly. Is spent 20 minutes diving before it got airborne, circled the main pit 3 times and headed south. Proof beyond doubt, it’s the Ripple bird, and a great start to 2026. #WorcsBirds

Very happy to have found a Great-northern Diver today,Cliftons first ever Diver sp. It spent a little over 1/2 hr being very active rising vertically out of the water, then running 2-4 meters with wings outstretched. It did this a few times before flying off west towards the Severn. Hope it returns

A straggling Woodlark behind a flock of 60 Skylarks became the latest addition to the species list at Clifton pits today. Co found with @robclipson.bsky.social #WorcsBirds

Two strikes in seven days with two lovely Rock Pipits giving fab views as they preened and dried atop fence posts after bathing in a channel off Clifton main pit last week. And today a cracking Black-necked Grebe diving just off the west shore in the morning sun, red eye and all!

I’ve seen a handful of Turnstones at Clifton, but never actually found one myself. So I was chuffed to find a summer plumage bird feeding along the east shore of the main pit this morning. Also 6 Black Terns, a Ruff and Greenshank still. #WorcsBirds #BirdingCentral

Totally get this. I’ve been very fortunate to visit a few far flung places, and would always peruse the local bird guide while enjoying afternoon tea ☕️🍰

Great to find only my 2nd Marsh Harrier at Clifton Pits this morning, and even better to know it was tracked down by @midlandsbirder.bsky.social in Worcester.

A Spotted Redshank on the NW shore of Clifton main pit this afternoon was a surprise, to say the least #WorcsBirds #BirdingCentral

Thanks Craig. Just 56 Tufteds, 10 Pochard, 9 Goosander, 67 Pintail. Didn’t count Wigeon or Teal, the cold got the better of me.
