Day 1 of Digital Mental Health and Wellbeing 2025 in sunny Granada! I had the opportunity to present my poster on the pilot study which kick started my PhD last summer on the role of responsible research and innovation (RRI) for digital mental health π #DMHW2025
While the 'belief' plot draws attention, the core message of the final, deliberative consensus statements is that evidence linking smartphone and social media use to negative outcomes is limited, mixed, context-dependent, insufficient to support causal claims, and better research is needed.
A recent blog post on regulating mental health technologies, written by myself and a couple of other Horizon DER members who are currently working on developing a toolkit for the adopters of these technologies π

Does smartphone use make people feel lonelier? Or does loneliness predict smartphone use?
We combined experience sampling data with smartphone usage data to examine the bidirectional association between well-being and smartphone use over time.

Yesterday I attended the MHRA 'Regulation and Evaluation of AI in Digital Mental Health Technologies' event.
I was given the opportunity to speak about my ongoing PhD study looking at the use of DMHTs in the NHS and facilitate the afternoon workshops on protocol development.
