Republicans in red states have gerrymandered to shit and back, often illegally, and when voters have passed initiatives to ban the practice, they have (even more illegally) ignored and undercut them. It is a little late to clutch your pearls and weep about the sanctity of democracy now

Wrong. The playing field never was level to start with, and the only way we get to that is if we a) get fascists out of government and b) get everyone on the same page that gerrymanders are bag and NOBODY should do them and ban them outright.
