I read this passage and thought "wow, that's a fascinating perspective on writing history based on first-person sources." Then I clicked through to read the article, and brother, I did not know what I was in for. Excellent writing, highly recommended

was reminded of this video about frieza being the perfect example of polite japanese and talking about his pronoun shifts throughout his forms and how fun it is. so here i am sharing it
Today is my birthday! I hope to live a long and healthy life, and create lots of art
and all of this whilst the anime removed one of the """problematic""" jokes from the manga
i hope this serves as a reminder that puritans can NEVER be appeased. all they want is blood and tears, and they'll never be satisfied until anyone they see as degenerates are gone...
I do like when you see examples of stuff where you're like, oh yeah I can see why some people who had no concept of things like iron oxide would see stuff and think "wow God must be super pissed off"
Elmo captions read: "Oh, my God,"
Elmo's World screenshot with captions reading: "TV. Damn."
Elmo's World screenshot. Closeup of Elmo's face. Caption says: "Thanksgiving."
Elmo's World screenshot, includes Elmo in front of his piano with a large talking yellow yo-yo. The subtitles say: "There's a fire."
What the heck, bruh?
Screenshot of Big Bird with cartoon horse. Captions read: "If you have seen Ernie stomp your horse one"
Screenshot of Big Bird in front of cartoon backdrop. Captions say: "Nice. Make chicken."
Screenshot of Bert. Subs say: "You did it, Bernice. You're dead"
Screenshot of a pink baby monster muppet, Nataha. Captions simply say: "Help."
So much to process
Screenshot of Elmo next to his pet's fishbowl in Elmo's World. The subtitles say "We. Dorothy's been thinking abou and down to what’s her daughter."
four birds in a cartoon from Sesame Street, with the caption reading "Oh, shit"
Another Sesame Street cartoon saying "Oh shit"
Screenshot of Big Bird in Hooper’s Store with live human Alan and a flying red bird. The subtitles read: "Time for the birth of terror. Me"
Do not watch Sesame Street on Tubi with the subtitles on 😭. I swear, I didn't edit or add anything. Is it hilarious? Yes, but also, they need to fix this immediately. Absolutely incomprehensible and bad
Bad news After 36 years, the garage fridge finally died. Been through a lot together. Outlasted 3 trucks, 2 wives. Went out quiet, like a cowboy. Must've kept 10,000 beers cold. Thinking about giving it a proper funeral
"Must've kept 10,000 beers cold"
GOD this is so rude, I was sure I was following you?? Did I unfollow on accident at some point??? I'm so sorry 😭
I'm so sorry to hear that... 😞 It's a complicated type of pain, to feel like even if the people you care about aren't necessarily doing it deliberately or maliciously, they're still managing to forget you when one of the most treasured aspects of friendship is being chosen & remembered by others
🥺 It means a lot to me that you'd say that. I had so much fun meeting you & becoming friends that I forget all the time we've only hung out in-person once! Maybe I can time it so when I'm visiting home, I get an extra long layover in a hotel near a con you're going to? Idk but I'd like to try!
The FDIC accepted this change yesterday. Its examiners can no longer advise a bank drop someone based on "reputational risk".
It doesn't mean the bank can't do it, but banks and paypros have a very public history of blaming entities higher up the chain for their decisions. It's a positive move
To bring some levity here: this lamentation is brought to you by the fact that not one, but two different friend groups here in Japan went to the world-famous dickfestival, & I didn't know I was missing it til they began posting to their IG stories about it 😭

I've repeatedly described myself as being like a free-floating electron, temporarily binding to the outer ring of a group before detaching & floating off to temporarily orbit the NEXT group. I usually don't feel any kinda way about it, but every now & again my isolation & ephemerality bother me.
I have this experience a lot where I consider myself to be pretty close with a handful of people, but then one day I blink & they're all best friends while I'm no longer part of the community, as if they collectively peered into the hollow space where my existence may have been & deemed me lacking.
good things can still happen in this world
Whenever I see people doing this, it reads as the holier-than-thou protestations of someone who's honestly just frantic at the sight of someone else doing something that they'd be too self-conscious & ashamed to do themselves.
"People who [engage in X harmless hobby/self-id with X harmless social group/label] are so cringe! You're really still doing that at your big age??"
You do not actually have to be embarrassed on other peoples' behalf. They're not embarrassed of themselves, & they don't need you to do it for them.
Simultaneously pretty AND handsome. I would look incredible in whatever I wanted to wear 😩
I don't know anything at all about KPop, but rest assured that Felix fills me with an incredibly violent form of gender envy. He makes me want to rip open both of our skins so that I can crawl inside and occupy him like a Yeerk. GIVE ME YOUR FACE AND VOICE AND BODY, NONSEXUALLY, I WANT TO BE YOU.
They moved me up to Lvl 4 at my school despite me repeatedly asking to please repeat Lvl 3, and I'm so comedically out of my depth I think I just need to quietly give up on 4 and spend the next 3 months teaching myself the lvl 3 lessons
