Why has logging into things gotten so annoying? I have strong, unique passwords managed by a password manager with 2FA turned on when available. And yet I have to check my email or a text message for a 6-digit code to log into anything.

Amen to this entire post. I've been voicing these concerns since all of the hype started, and I'm baffled that other people are blithely ignoring them. One of my questions to boosters has been, "Are you willing to be the first person on an airplane with software built solely with AI?" I'm not.

MSFT is all multi-platform at this point. Their hardware will be more like a Steam Machine (Project Helix). Sony will be powered by breadth and third party exclusivity deals (e.g. Kojima's Physint). First party, they have Yotei, Saros, Wolverine, God of War, and Intergalactic (Naughty Dog's new IP).

It's the end of the road for Sony's PC games Worried that its PlayStation brand is suffering, Sony is reportedly pulling back from selling its PS5 games on the PC.

It doesn't seem that way. It appears that Sony isn't doing PC releases of their exclusives anymore.

The Tail End No matter what your age, you may, without realizing it, be enjoying the very last chapter of the relationships that matter most to you. Make it count.

Big same! I lost my mom 21 years ago and dad 5 years ago, so I'm in this boat for my wife and her parents. Relatedly, this post solidified for me how important it is to prioritize what you love in life: waitbutwhy.com/2015/12/the-... The visualization was striking, and I revisit it all the time.

A screenshot showing a summary blurb from LinkedIn about Anthropic dropping their stringent safety standards due to "competitive harm". These standards stated they would stop working on a model they deemed dangerous, but they're now basing the decision on competitors releasing models with comparable capabilities. Anthropic states this has nothing to do with Pete Hegseth from the Pentagon threatening their government contracts. Anthropic is full of shit.

Anthropic abandoned their safety standards. They say it isn't due to Pete Hegseth threatening them [1], but I think that's bullshit. Convenient timing with OpenAI removing "safely" from their mission statement last November [2].

I have a tiny little THX Onyx DAC that I've been using for a while. It amazes me how much difference in volume it makes for my Fiios and Sennheisers. I have to turn down system volume to 50% and most video players down to 50%, too. Haha.

I'm sad how right you are about all of these posts. We've been considering if we have options for moving to another country through our parents. 🙃

I'm glad folks are coming out to support! I've been a professional software engineer for 20 years and have only used Python in the past 6 years for bioinformatics-related roles. Python isn't my primary language, but I had to support on principle alone! I loved the $256 donation option, BTW!

I respect the Python Software Foundation for this! They applied for a grant from the US National Science Foundation and got it. A condition of the funding was to not do any diversity, equity, and inclusion work. They refused and withdrew their application. Donate here: psfmember.org/civicrm/cont...

Ah, yes, a "framework". The cousin of the lauded "concept of a plan". 🤣

Does it work normally for you? I've used the web player for multiple years, and it recently started repeating songs or stopping altogether. Kate had the same thing happen to her. Happens on both Chrome and Firefox, so I'm a little stumped.

I was getting the same thing as you, so I opened the link in a private/incognito window and was able to read it as a gift article. Maybe give that a go to see if it works.

When I was in Japan, I had hiccups for 3 days in a row that lasted 2 - 3 hours each time. It was the absolute worst.

UniFi PoE+ Adapter (30W) - Ubiquiti Store An adapter that can power UniFi PoE+ devices, reduce dependency on PoE switch power, and provide a Gigabit LAN connection.

Those are Mikrotik's "ethernet extender" (mikrotik.com/product/gperx4) and Ubiquiti's PoE adapter (store.ui.com/us/en/catego...). I have so many of those Ubiquiti adapters. :P

I agree re: AI. I'm waiting on my ah ha moment. An eng I respect recently had his after being a naysayer for years.

What is the best way to get in touch about the PC-focused work? I was going to submit through "Editorial Enquiry" on the website, but I want to make sure that's the right place. CC: @dachsjaeger.bsky.social

Good luck! I loved it when I played it. I just looked, and I last played it exactly a year ago. I need to re-download it to see what's new. And not achieve anything for a week or two.

We worked many late nights on the audio for Star Wars together. It was a great experience for working on my first game!

It is according to the listing! First time I’ve seen the words “stripper pole” in a real estate listing. And a living room with a 10-person hot tub. And a house with a plan for its own 11 townhouse subdivision plan. So much going on!

Awesome! My friend Kristen is the audio director at Bonfire! We worked together at Microsoft Games Studios. 😃
