I think it was over 100! I wasn't really paying attention to the palette size while I was working so I went a bit overboard. For example, I wanted particularly smooth gradients on the face, so there are about 15 colors used there and nowhere else in the image

Had to do a little drawing of one of my favorite bits of medieval swag. Byzantine-style robes with what appears to be a Mongolian cloud collar over them. The dude's name is Jovan Oliver (an honest to God John Oliver), and he was a mid-14th century nobleman under Serbian emperor Stefan Dušan.
