TY for the heads-up on this, just updated the review to reflect this. Cheers!
So lovely to be back after 10 years…

So what happens to TCM now?
Come for the dopey banter, the unabashed middle-age film-nerdom on display, Jason "Crusher" Bailey's matinee-idol mug, and the fact that this podcast is based on the greatest book ever written. Stay for the neighing horses that accompany every mention of Cloris Leachman [cue neighing horses]... 📽️
NETWORK doesn't officially turn 50 until November, but @criterion.bsky.social just put out a great Blu-ray of it, and I've been thinking about the movie a lot lately... 📽️

Digging this phase of Alexander Skarsgard's career re: roles that fall between socially awkward and straight-up asshole, and PILLION is a good example of that w/leading-man energy. Plus it answers the Q: what if Nora Ephron did a collab with Tom of Finland? 🎥

EXTREMELY great news out of #Sundance, easily one of the best things I saw at this year's festival, or really, out of any of the Sundances I've been at...
(now do JOSEPHINE)

Tabitha Jackson Announced as Director of Film Forum; Influential Film Industry. Leader Will Assume Role as of February. 23
Oh look, a thing that rules @filmforumnyc.bsky.social
I've often contended this is the funniest sketch I've ever seen, and easily one of the funniest ever to air on terrestrial television. Catherine O'Hara wrote this. I once told her I owe her royalties for the amount of times I've quoted it.

Please note FTR that I talked to Tamra Davis about THE BEST SUMMER, her #Sundance spirit-of-'94 concert movie starring the Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Bikini Kill and more, and did *not* quote the 'I Award You No Points' speech from 'Billy Madison.' Not even once. www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv...
"Paul Thomas Anderson and Jonny Greenwood have long been a great match. Now they seem to be operating on a single wavelength. Giving the composer an Oscar for his contributions to the form is long past due." — @rollingstone.com's @davidlfear.bsky.social www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...
Halfway though #Sundance 2026, highlights so far: JOSEPHINE, CLOSURE, ONCE UPON A TIME IN HARLEM, BROKEN ENGLISH, THE HISTORY OF CONCRETE, PUBLIC ACCESS 🎥
THE DISCIPLE, the doc on Wu Tang affiliate Cilvaringz that premiered at #Sundance, offers an inside look at how a pet project turned into 'Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.' It gets ugly.

Wrote about Mel Brooks, fart jokes, Nazi jokes, sick humor, showbiz timelines, the new two-part doc 'Mel Brooks: The 99-Year-Old Man' that premieres tomorrow, outrage as a tool for belly laughs and subversion, and also fart jokes.

A sex comedy, a portrait of a once-in-a-lifetime dinner party, an Ethan Hawke survivalist thriller, a Brat Summer metafiction, a doc on Courney Love — here's what we're stoked to see at the final Park City go-round of the #SundanceFilmFestival. 🎥

On the eve of this year's Sundance, one of my favorites from last year's Sundance gets a theatrical run. SEEDS finally opens at @filmforumnyc.bsky.social. It's the sort of doc that makes you feel lucky to have spent time with the people in it.

Liked 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE. *Loved* what Ralph Fiennes is doing in it, and how Kelson gives him the chance to play to his strengths, and deepen and enrich the franchise as a whole, while dancing with a half-naked 7 ft man to Duran Duran. 10/10 there.

A spoiler re: my interview with Paul Feig, amateur charmer, professional comedy legend, tippler extraordinaire and director of the exquisite gothic trash that is THE HOUSEMAID: We drank martinis. And they were fucking awesome.

The Chronicle’s rabidly clapping guy sold more movie tickets to the Embarcadero than I’ve had hot meals
3 hrs to showtime!
Formula for me to become a regular listener to a podcast:
Expert who will make me smarter (often means rounder) on the subject... goes deep for 90 minutes or more... host excells at drawing out the guest but also has a strong POV... still an audio product even if dragged on to youtube...

I just think it’s so much cooler and more interesting to try to be the best audio show rather than the shittiest television show
