There are so many reasons to hate Spotify if we care about music. But every time someone (artists, labels or users) quits Spotify not because of that but because the CEO invested in a company that is helping Ukraine defend itself I feel like, as an European, I'm being betrayed

This is a correct take but I would not single out Spotify. All other mainstream streaming services are guilty of different degrees of the same issues. I like that your issues with it are related to how they devalue music and artists and not because of Ek's (good) investments in European defense.
You don't, I have a personal Spotify subscription but the account I use for creating the playlists is a free one
Being at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona felt like being surrounded by people with Bluesky accounts
I went to Primavera Sound to see Danny L Harle. It was huge
Being at the Rewire festival in Den Haag feels like being surrounded by people with Bluesky accounts
A picture of Sturgill Simpson and his band live at Paradiso, Amsterdam
A 3 hour long Sturgill Simpson set sounds like the greatest idea ever until you realize you’re not 25 anymore
Not Bill Fay, man. Bill Fay. This fucking week. One of the greatest to ever do it. My first and only choice every time a festival/promoter asks “who should we book next year?” (like they’re gonna consider it) knowing damn well he never played a single show in his career. Rest easy.
out now: our sixth weekly playlist of 2025 featuring Richard Dawson, Pearl Charles, Helena Deland, Oklou, James Elkington, @adwaithmusic.bsky.social, Moontype, PUP, James Brandon Lewis, Preoccupations, Marshall Allen, Kristina Murray, Gaye Su Akyol, Mari Kalkun, Vulture Feather, and more
Also @thesickmanofeurope.bsky.social is the best band name I've seen in 2025 so I hope they're good
One of the best festivals around for people who enjoy guitars btw. Sure, you're gonna see this pic and ask "who?", but the truth is I had more than my government-mandated amount of fun last year
Forgot to post last week's playlist, so here it is. New tracks by FACS, Sharon van Etten, @immennimmen.bsky.social, Squid, Dean Blunt & Elias Rønnenfelt, @ratsonrafts.bsky.social, @trupatrupa.bsky.social, Heartworms, Ebo Taylor, La Lom, Georgia Harmer, @shannonwrightmusic.bsky.social, and more.
What do you think? Should I make this sticker?
Before I leave for a packed Jason Isbell show, here's another edition of our weekly playlist. New Will Oldham means 2025 is already worth living; as an added bonus there are new tracks by BCNR, @rosecityband.bsky.social, Esther Rose, Waxahatchee, Circuit des Yeux, Lily Hiatt, Kathryn Mohr, and mohr
Music, film, and videogames did not peak while you were in the 13-23 age range. Don’t let your less curious friends convince you otherwise. They’re turning into their parents faster than you are

This is basically a commissioned piece that I didn’t have to pay for
(The answer is “no” lmao)
Will 2025 be the year the “indie music industry” gets rid of the scourge of the 3rd and 4th and 5th “advance single” from a 10 track record and the vomit-inducing gimmicky marketeer discourse about “album cycles” that makes artistry sound like a brand
Essential Christmas watching
Plus, Hamilton Leithauser's comeback single, another YHWH Nailgun banger, a great collab between Torres and Julien Baker, another Meernaa earworm, a bunch of songs from albums released this fall that I've only listened to last week (hemlock, Anna Butterss...), etc. Here.
Last playlist of the year since basically nobody dares to release albums in December, there's barely any non-seasonal new tracks, and you're not gonna listen to a new music playlist on the 25th of December or 1st of January, so this is it. I had no idea White Denim had a new album coming out!
tomorrow we publish the last playlist of the year! meanwhile, last week's, which I forgot to share here due to my very busy life. it's got the indie rockers Good Morning on the cover, plus new tracks by the likes of @willstratton.bsky.social, Şatellites, Hand Habits, Clara Mann, Drop Nineteens, etc.
