What larks! Howling mice, self-decapitating slugs and butt-poison-firing beetles. All in @joannabagniewska.com's modern bestiary and another cracking @pubsci.bsky.social.

Many thanks to @joannabagniewska.com for a fabulous talk last night. It was simultaneously entertaining, informative, and marvellously gross in parts (mainly animal butt parts FWIW).
I'm looking forward to reading more from The Modern Bestiary.
Follow PubSci for more great events.
IanVisits rates it one of the "Top things to do in London" tomorrow — so grab your ticket for @joannabagniewska.com's talk on beasts, bestiaries, and "crazy-but-true" creatures which wouldn't be out of place alongside the hippogriffs of a medieval manuscript!
pubsci-april2026.eventbrite.co.uk
Tickets for The Modern Bestiary on 15th April are now available.
Expect pyromaniac beetles and sea slugs that decapitate themselves... much like a medieval bestiary, but with less moralising and more wildlife. Also butts, sex and grossness.
Not to be missed!

No ifs, no buts – definitely some butts?
I can't promise any bears at PubSci, but there will definitely be beers, books and a Tudor king
Sounds perfect for PubSci – can't wait!

This was a super take-away from your talk at PubSci last Wednesday, Andrew.
As so often happens, it came in response to an audience question, demonstrating the importance of outreach events, not just for public understanding and engagement, but as a two-way process that rewards speakers too.

Thank you for an epic evening of cosmological wonder, Andrew
Many thanks for a super talk, Andrew!
There can be no more random universe than the one in which Andrew Jaffe and @pubsci.bsky.social try to make sense of it all, under the watchful gaze of Henry VIII and a kitchen team shouting SCAMPI & CHIPS. Glorious.
Fully booked!
Hurrah!
Not long now until PubSci welcomes @defjaf.bsky.social to The Old King's Head to ask if everything we know about the Big Bang is wrong!
Only a handful of places left, so grab yours ASAP. Prof Jaffe will also be signing copies of his book
🧪 The cost of a PubSci ticket? Whatever you want it to be! 🍺
Looking forward to your @PubSci talk in London next Wednesday, Andrew.
