A giant jar of the heavy duty mayo that you can only buy in super bulk from a restaurant supply store
I was looking up why macaroni salad at restaurants is good and why mine is always mid in comparison. What do you mean there's "heavy-duty" mayonnaise?!

Chinook salmon found naturally hatching in Upper Klamath River for first time in a century
The Klamath Tribes are celebrating evidence of Chinook salmon spawning in Klamath River tributary.
Good news to start your Monday: thanks to the removal of the four Klamath River dams, wild Chinook have hatched for the first time in over a century in the upper reaches of the Klamath!
This river reaches the Pacific in northern California, where K- and L-Pods spend time in the winter/spring.

Gourmet Magazine
Gourmet is a worker-owned publication about food and the people who make and consume it.
Condé Nast forgot to renew the trademark for Gourmet and so a group of journalists grabbed it and are relaunching the food magazine as a worker-owned co-op. Love it. [gourmetmagazine.net]

Above figure two: 27th Dec- 31st Dec. Confused,
Full of cheese,
Unsure of the day of week.

At least I knew it was fiction, but I kept waiting for the jokes and just got more and more petrified 😭 I would have passed out if I caught this on TV back in 1992!

The poster for the BBC special “Ghostwatch.”
My local indie theater described “Ghostwatch” as a “parody” and a “prank.” I, a horror weenie, loaded it up thinking it was a comedy 😭 😭 😭 It is…not a comedy.

Drawing of a heraldic device consisting of an escutcheon with a hot dog being knighted by a man, in place of standard helmet is a jar of mustard, labeled "sinapi," supported by two wiener dogs on either side. Banderole below reads "CALIDUS CANIS"
Hot dog coat-of-arms, created for the 50th anniversary of the invention of the hot dog, at Coney Island in 1939. Shows a hot dog being knighted, flanked by two wiener dogs, crowned by mustard. (They took some liberties with the Latin, but do you expect a hot dog place to have an in-house Latinist?)

Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.

jerry brown's portrait in the window of the California State Capitol building
wikipedia entry for Jerry Brown's gubernatorial portrait
My favorite thing about the California state capitol building is that, at night, you can see Jerry Brown's "controversial" portrait inside from half a mile away
