A toadstool.
This one was some whimsical fun but also an experiment using spalted hackberry for a chair structure. It works very similarly to ash, white with greenish undertones. I used liming wax to brighten the white and mute the spalted lines for a more shroomy effect.

I’m hanging on
by some roots and some time
and all of the stories
that live in my spine
the wind came a blowing
I tried to let go
something said hold on
theres more here to grow
so keep hanging on
hanigng on
the climb may be steep
and the forces stay strong
hanging on.

The Stool Project.

I’ve been working on a stool design specifically for classes and teaching. Find out more about it and how you can make one along with me in my blog post on Substack

Fair question. Most doors we build are scaled to an original design in a house where one needs replacing. Offering kits could get complicated with such a wide variety of patterns and sizes.

Curious on how you keep center axis aligned with such a short bevel gauge? Or do you run the math to line it up along the 6° taper?

Another door headed out. Not sure how I started making doors… maybe just because I live in an area with lots of historic homes that need replacements made but, 2025 has 13 of them so far.
