I've been thinking about this for about 2 hours (which at least provided some distraction from my mock marking). Genuine laugh-out-loud when I finally got it. Genius!
Week 2 of speaker announcements for #rEDEastAnglia, and we’re delighted to add these three exceptional contributors to our growing line up! 🤩
More to come. Keep watching this (@attinstitute.bsky.social) space 👀
If you haven't already bought your tickets, now is the time!! ⬇️ ⬇️
The govt's just announced a statutory ban on phones in schools...four days after education minister Olivia Bailey said the problem was already "solved". www.tes.com/magazine/new...
Very pleased to see phones in school will now be banned by law.
This creates a very clear position from which schools can discuss this issue with parents, lessening any potential diminishing of relationship between school and home.
Well, it's got to pass the commons... but 🤞🤞🤞
@drwilkinsonsci.bsky.social will being giving us a front line account of SEN and how the government changes will be impacting our classes.
@paulclinepsy.bsky.social will be sharing the ways he uses feedback in class to support students to move forward.
Congratulations! I'm sure it will be an excellent read, and perfect for trainees/ECTs.
I’ve published a new book! 🥳
It is pitched at new teachers. Short. Easy reading. Helps make sense of what goes on in schools.
Check it out.

Scaffolding is not a synonym for support.
It should be temporary, responsive, and designed to disappear.

New Post!
In many classrooms, lots of students aren’t listening, meaning they aren’t learning. Here we outline a few common mistakes and simple techniques for building classrooms where ALL students participate.
Please share if you can 🙏

People are often surprised by this, but I really really don't like grades.
I think they encourage a (flawed) skills-based way of thinking about education.
More here, including alternatives.

Amazing, well done!

Very much looking forward to #rEDEastAnglia with some cracking speakers on the programme
Come along for an excellent day of cpd!
Used to sit on the arm of my dad’s chair as he did it after dinner. Asked how each clue worked as he solved it. Started to look ahead at the later clues to see if I could get any before he got there. Think that gave him a mixture of annoyance & pride!
Nice. Agree ‘shoots again’ works better grammatically!
I didn’t get it, forgot to check back, then it moved on so never saw the solution! Still none the wiser…
Hope you made good use of the loos at both too!
Surely it can be both?
"A phone-free school is not anti-technology. It is pro-childhood. It is pro-attention. It is pro-learning. It is pro-relationship. It is pro-safety." 👏👏
And with really well established classroom routines etc it doesn't have to be that demanding to maintain student focus for the vast majority of the time.
Also, there is a line between 'having a bit of mental down time' and 'wasting large chunks of everybody's time'.
There's an obvious pressure, though - from externally produced exam syllabi & timelines - that makes it hard to be comfortable with any time 'lost'.
That's not to say the '100 % on' vision is healthy (or even desirable), just that it's understandable.
Congratulations Dr Fairlamb! 👏👏
We have some people doing some work in the garden & my 5 yr old is essentially reenacting ‘Tradies’ from Bluey. It’s basically the best day of the holidays.
No need to apologise, exactly the kind of smart-arse comment I make (mainly to my children) all the time!
That sounds exciting, good luck with the training.
