Love to see our Queensland comrades getting stuck in. ✊♥️
A screenshot of a headline in the Guardian newspaper that reads: "$30m an hour: big oil reaping huge war windfall from consumers, analysis finds"
Expect the 'war windfall' to spread to supermarkets and other big corporates who will also pass on rising costs to consumers, along with a little extra to boost their profits while they feel they've got the excuse. Also expect our gutless Labor government to do nothing about it.
This Saturday Michal and other VS members in Essendon will be meeting at 11am at Newmarket Station for a campaign day - letterboxing and door knocking, putting forward a socialist vision for Victoria, and countering the toxic politics of the far right. www.victoriansocialists.org.au/events/2019
You can read more about Michal, sign-up to receive updates about her campaign, volunteer and/or make a donation via her candidate page on our website: www.victoriansocialists.org.au/candidates/m...
"We should expect better than this. We need more public services and public housing, not increased spending on police, prisons, defence or deportations."
Michal writes: "Our government criminalises poverty and Indigenous people and recently made it much easier to search and lock up young people. In a cost of living and housing crisis this means more people are penalised for the government’s failure to meet their basic needs."
Michal is a community lawyer whose daily work involves helping people stand up to police and other government authorities when they've been unfairly treated. She is also a supporter of Palestine and a trade unionist.

The Victorian state election will be held on Saturday 28th November. Victorian Socialists are running candidates across the state. Today, we're proud to introduce our candidate for Essendon, Michal Kedem.

"Politics as usual hasn’t delivered for working-class people, stemmed climate destruction or stopped the growth of the far right. We need something different, rooted in collective action and standing with our communities, not big business, built on solidarity rather than profit."
Kath writes: "I’m not running because I think one person can fix everything, I’m running to put up a fight. To protect and extend our green spaces, to build public housing, freeze rents and reverse the privatisation which has seen the cost of essential services and utilities soar.
There, alongside fellow unionised workers, she organised rank-and-file action to improve wages and conditions, including the first strike on the Victorian railways in 17 years.
Kath is a Northcote local, renter, and trade unionist. For almost a decade she worked on the railways, where she became the first female Rail, Tram and Bus Union delegate at Flinders Street Station.
The Victorian state election will be held on Saturday 28th November. Victorian Socialists are running candidates across the state. Today, we're proud to introduce our candidate for Northcote, Kath Larkin.
A screenshot of a headline on ABC News. It reads 'Hundreds killed in 'barbaric' wave of Israeli strikes in Lebanon'.
Ceasefire or no ceasefire. Israel's terror campaign continues. In a half-way sane world, even this one act would be enough to see Netanyahu and co. in The Hague. Yet *at most* our leaders will express their 'deep concern' and continue to act as if the Israeli state is somehow a force for good.
A screenshot of an article headline and the first two paragraphs of the article in the Canberra Times. The headline reads: "Why this new political party wants to be 'a thorn' in ACT Labor's side". The text reads: "A socialist candidate could be on the ballot paper at the next ACT election as a party secretary argues Labor has taken territory voters for granted. The Canberra Socialists have lodged an application with the ACT Electoral Commission to register as a political party for Legislative Assembly elections."
There's a spectre haunting Canberra. ❤️✊
Trump: If you don't agree to hand control of your country over to me and my friends, I will destroy your entire civilisation
Iran: ...
Labor Party: Impossible to tell who is in the wrong, all sides must show restraint.
A screenshot of a headline from the Age newspaper. "Ministers refuse to condemn Trump’s threat: Australian ministers have refused to condemn Trump’s threat that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” as the hours tick down to his 8pm Tuesday (10am AEST today) deadline for Iran to agree to a deal that includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz."
Labor's moral depravity on full display. Trump threatens to inflict a holocaust on Iran and all they can muster is calls for "all parties to act within international humanitarian law". Meanwhile, the US continues to use facilities like Pine Gap to coordinate its terror campaign. Shameful.
A screenshot of an article headline in the Age newspaper. It reads "Ben Roberts-Smith Arrested: Australia's most decorated soldier to be charged over five murders".
Good. Now do John Howard and everyone else in the political class who so enthusiastically sent Australians to fight in Afghanistan and elsewhere in the name of oil and empire and whose racist, dehumanising rhetoric gave license to the mass death and destruction inflicted in their names.
VS members visited striking council waste workers on picket lines outside their depots in Merri-bek and Darebin this morning. The workers, members of the Australian Services Union, are fighting to make up a real wage cut of 7 to 12 percent since 2021. Solidarity! ✊
Shorter Albo: The US/Israeli war I support is causing a touch of economic bother and we all have to work together to get through this in a way that ensures no disruption to business profits and definitely no inconvenience to the rich in an way. (Prepare to suffer, peasants.)
We need tech support 🙏

"Sydney Criminal Lawyers spoke to VS candidate[s] Anneke Demanuele and Omar Hassan about how their recent campaigning against One Nation has been taken amongst the local constituency, and why this threat is more formidable than many consider."

A screenshot of a post on X by Anthony Albanese that reads 'We've just introduced laws to crack down on petrol price gouging with huge fines.' A community note sits under the post which reads 'Labor’s legislation doesn’t prevent corporations from price gouging. As proposed bill would only increase existing fines for corporations that lie about why they raise prices. They can still price gouge without penalty.'
Nice to see Albanese's lame attempt to be seen to do something about profiteering associated with the (Labor supported) Trump/Israeli war on Iran called out. We need a real crackdown on price gouging, and not just at the petrol pump - but we won't get that from Labor!
Amazing work from the Party Line podcast crew (VS members and state election candidates Jordan van den Lamb, Omar Hassan and Anneke Demanuele) in their latest ep. filmed live at the Victorian teachers and education support staff strike on Monday. Well worth checking out!

A view from high above of tens of thousands of striking teachers assembled along Bourke St and outside Parliament House in Melbourne
An overhead view of today's teachers and support staff strike rally looking up Bourke St towards Parliament House. That's A LOT of people - estimates are more than 40,000! The collective power of workers on full display.
(Shout out to the supportive city worker who sent this in)
If you're a member of VS who is a teacher or support staff, get involved in the recently established 'Socialists in Schools' group. You can find them on Instagram at @socialistsinschoolsvic.
A few more pics from today's tens-of-thousands-strong rally and march by Victorian public school teachers and support staff. These legends deserve much improved pay and conditions after the massive real wage cut they've copped over the course of their last agreement.
