When the movie referenced Super Mario Bros 3 worlds, that was pretty great.

While the new Super Mario movie still isn’t great, it scratched a much better nostalgia itch for me this time around.
The cover of a book: Becoming Alien, second edition, with the subtitle “The Beginning and End of Evil in Science Fiction’s Most Idiosyncratic Film Franchise,” with a foreword by Matt Zoller Seitz. There are two dippy birds drinking out of the same cup on the cover.
IT’S REAL

New Anne Hathaway single for Mother Mary kind of rules? I guess that makes sense because its from FKA Twigs.

A brand new episode of It's the Pictures podcast is now available. @reelrecon.bsky.social and I talk about the year 1986 and movies celebrating their 40th anniversary. Do you like RAD?

(I felt the same. Imposter syndrome and all that)
I just looked it up and I applied on February 9th. So maybe I was included in the 100? Who knows! But the probability of being accepted for that role was 0.0666%
You had better odds of being born on Leap day than being accepted for this role.
I guess I shouldn't be shocked but the more frightening statistic is that 1500 people applied for the role of Film Critic at A.V. Club. That's wild.
I know Monica well and she's awesome. So happy to hear she'll be a part of the A.V. Club team.
I don't think Craig Gillespie has made a film that was really raving about in almost a decade, but maybe Gunn has made a house style for DC that will make this work.

It's Trans Day of Visibility today. If you're trans and are raising money for something (I don't care what it is), reply to this thread and I will boost you.
If you are a cis person, take a look and find someone to support if you can.
Everyone give this a share after.
Like is it all that different than Force Majeure? I’ll stick with being disappointed by Mario this week.
As a fan of Ruben Ostlund’s work I should be into this, but I just find the twist to be icky.
Turned on Prince of Egypt tonight and that opening sequence remains undefeated. What a masterclass in music and animation.
Just remember that Mike White might just be a coward.

I don't think people understand how hard it is to work in the video-game industry right now. If you've been laid off, it can take months if not years to find new work. If you haven't been laid off, you're anxious that you will be laid off.

A Google Slide with an image of the cover of Phil Eil's book, Prescription for Pain, alongside screenshots from Goodreads. One shot reads: Prescription for Pain: How a Once-Promising Doctor Became the "Pill Mill Killer" Philip Eil 3.99 453 ratings79 reviews The others are from two reviews: a five-star and two-star review, respectively. The first calls the book "incredible journalism"; the second says they didn't finish the book and that I talked to much about myself.
I'm working on slides for this presentation about what I learned from publishing a book -- and I'm hitting folks with the Goodreads screenshots (both good and bad) early.
No sense sugar-coating it.
The PlayStation 5 launched at $500. More than five years later, it’s $650. Bonkers blog.playstation.com/2026/03/27/n...
Good. I found Returnal really punishing. This actually makes me more interested in Saros.
