Great discussions on all things marine microbes and biogeochemical cycles last week at our first in person meeting of the @biogeoscapes.bsky.social fellows second cohort in Santa Monica, CA. FYI no issues getting into and out of the states for any of us.

Trump’s Push For Deep-Sea Metals Clashes With UN Ocean Treaty In addition to Canada and Greenland, the US president is targeting the international seabed as a source for minerals needed for green technology. Here’s what to know.

TMC wants US permission to mine an area it licensed from the ISA under the sponsorship of Nauru. TMC declined to comment on whether those obligations to Nauru remain if it is issued a US mining license.

Spring reminder, as people start to think about gardening: NEVER buy compost with peat it in (inexplicably still on sale). If it does not say "peat free" in big letters, do not buy it. Peat is incredibly valuable in peat bogs, for rare biodiversity and as a carbon store. Don't put it on your garden!
