My local politics might not be relevant to you, but your Green candidates will be one of very few funded by real people, not massive corporations and billionaires. Please consider them.

Greens were the only party seriously advocating for:
- Active transport & safer streets.
- Serious solutions for EV charging.
- Action on growing hate crime, racism & transphobia.
- Cutting financial ties with Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
- A serious plan to stop airport expansion.
and many more
We came so close to seeing the penny drop with Reform. They start off blaming “illegal” immigrants for ‘taking benefits and services’. Then acknowledge that services have not kept up with population growth. Greens point out that this is exactly the issue migrants are scapegoated on.
Just spectated my first local Hustings. @hillingdongreens.bsky.social absolutely smashed it.
So much of our lives and the climate crisis is influenced by local politics, so make sure to vote Green on May 7 to bring about positive change.
Hello person on bluesky
playlist* not album
Apple. Why have you added this song to my album 49,273 times?
that’s not supposed to happen is it
also successfully eating and drinking while riding 🔥🔥
nice solo* ride today, discovered a cool narrow climb nearby
*I managed get fully ready for the group ride and then realise it was the wrong day
exciting bicyle upgrade
“But the Greens will ban the races” GOOD!
Seriously, you people spend the whole day at the races and ‘this could be wrong’ doesn’t cross your mind once?
Si is soo good at presenting these
The worst part about this being pointed out to me is that I will never be able to unsee it. Every time I walk anywhere.
like genuinely some of these routes are fucking terrifying at night, so much so that it motivated me to beat some of my personal records despite having a 6kg+ bag on my panniers
please don't get mugged or bikejacked tho 🙏🥺
Hey @evanedinger.bsky.social
I'm a huge fan of your London cycling content (as a London cyclist)
I'm sure you have lots of video ideas. But a big issue with the current cycle network no one is covering is safety after dark!
Good research:
lcc.org.uk/news/womens-...
lcc.org.uk/wp-content/u...
LCC’s data is really detailed. I could see this being massively useful in an app (e.g. warning users about potential dangers) if they’ve made the dataset open.
I think the real solution here is removing the Cycleway status from these routes and building new Cycleways that are inclusive and meet modern standards.
But until this happens apps need to directing people onto unsafe, inaccessible paths and known mugging spots.
Going from central to West London, it is almost impossible to get a navigation app to give you a route that doesn't use the Grand Union Canal for long stretches.
This route is terrifying in the dark even as a man.
Manually planning the route could be hours of work.
Thank you! That does make sense.
There is some data on the (many) TfL cycleways that are 'socially unsafe' after dark.
If I could only make one improvement, it would be to offer an alternative route avoiding these sections:
lcc.org.uk/wp-content/u... (This also has alternative routes!)
*I'm a fairly extreme user. I'm quite nitpicky, live in a fairly car-heavy part of London and the route I am planning for tomorrow is 30km each way.
Would be fine if I could get live navigation on my Apple Watch.
I can't seem to figure out how to do that with this TfL Go route.
And as I can't customise the route to make it easier to remember, unfortunately it doesn't seem very usable for my purposes.
The main problem I have with the feature however is the inability to export the route and/or lack of a navigation mode.
The route suggested has many turns and junctions (as it goes on 20 and 30mph roads instead of straight main road + canal).
Which..
Back to TfL Go:
TfL Go is arguably even worse here. There are no preferences at all, and only one possible route is provided.
So, in my opinion, TfL go will never be as good as the mainstream apps unless it matches or exceeds on customisability. Hopefully I've made the case for it.
Example: Apple doesn't allow you to add intermediate stops to a cycle route, and all controls/heuristics disappear in place of just ONE vague "Avoid Busy Roads" option (which still puts you on busy roads)
This is a unique problem with cycling and makes these features that Google and Apple implement for motorists as a nice quality of life addition ESSENTIAL.
But, in Apple and Google maps, when you turn on cycling mode, these features get removed!
Why is this so important for cycling?
Examples:
Some people won't feel comfortable cycling on canals, through certain parks, or on certain roads on their own at night.
Some people will need to memorise their route, so will prefer something simpler.
Different types of bikes/fitness levels.
Most navigation apps give plenty of choice for driving. This is great UX as people have different preferences and the algorithm can get it wrong. But it is even more important for cycling.
This includes route options AND the ability to add "stops" or "waypoints"
Tbh I assumed this was semi-intentional as it looks quite new. The routes, in theory, look pretty nice, but tricky to follow.
My feedback as a regular cyclist and someone who makes frontend stuff:
Choice is important. This is something all navigation apps do poorly for cycling.
