Perplexing results of this new paper: you cannot deny the role of social media in peoples lives yet when platforms become politicised and unsafe what is the action to take? Abandon existing communities and spaces or risk or accept less engagement and bias. I wish I had an answer!

I was just searching for this graphic on LinkedIn. Perplexing dynamic where social media is both the most important channel for scientific information but also probably the least trusted of all forms of media. Definitely a discussion to be had in my team at SEI.

I am sure that Dr Sultan Al Jaber and @COP28_UAE’s success will be judged (fairly) on the outcomes of #COP28  but I think we are witnessing a masterclass in multilateral leadership. This will be the bar for not just future COP hosts but for the bar for multilateralism full stop.

Priest Nick Howe at the English Church in Stockholm, Sweden said today in our Remembrance Day service; “war is the failure of diplomacy”. Seems simple. But the more I think about peace the more I see a need for a readiness for war. Almost like to have one you need the other.

Here is my hot take of the week. Social media is dying, X is the biggest example but engagement is falling across platforms. Press and media will fill the void. In both my professional and personal life I see the authenticity and rigour shown by “proper” journalism will drive a massive comeback.
