It also makes it harder for them to ban books.

Big Food Faces First-of-A-Kind Lawsuit for Making Kids Sick with Ultra-Processed Products A teenager has sued major companies like Coca-Cola and Nestlé for allegedly causing illnesses in kids with 'addictive' ultra-processed foods.

A teen in the US has sued Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Kraft Heinz, Mondelēz International and seven other Big Food corporations for engineering ultra-processed foods (UPFs) to be as addictive as cigarettes. #opcanary

The Big Food corporations used the tobacco industry’s strategies and specialists to target children, and according to lawyers they especially targeted “black and hispanic children, with integrated marketing tie-ins with cartoons, toys and games, along with social media advertising.”#opcanary

If I had time/money/energy/etc. I'd love to do in-depth research going through more historical articles/books & interviewing Blacks & Latinos outside my circles/platf. & write about this. In the meantime, I collect info & hope others will investigate/ask questions too. Thanks for listening!

The racialization of Pit Bulls by those who supposedly care about Blacks and Latinos but IMO are using us to protect dogs from regulations has led to some advocates maybe misguidedly making some problematic comparison between race and breed too. evolution-outreach.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

I say older African Americans & Latinos to check Dickey & Delise's narratives. I think they actually pushed the racialization of Pit Bulls. Delise leveraged Vick's arrest to start the narrative. Her book is available online for free. Find it and fact-check it against primary sources too.

Sorry I brought u into the fold. I saw ur last name and my not yet caffeinated brain almost started writing to you in Spanish despite u clearly not identifying as Latina. I apologize again but also ask u to speak w/ older Latinos & African Americans abt how they feel re: Pit Bulls being "our dogs."

Read up on BFAS and the AFF/NCRC, their history and how they work. Why does a dog breed need a lobbying organization that uses the same playbook the tobacco industry and more recently Purdue Pharma used?

*Alleged* threats. She might have been yelled she was a liar by victim advocates or those who knew about Pit Bull history, but she spun it into it being dangerous to write about the dogs.

I'm not asking you to just believe what I'm saying. I'm asking you to go through primary sources available through the Library of Congress, Hathi Trust, Newspapers.com, Google Books, etc. and fact-check her, too, and especially to fact-check quotes from her book before sharing them.

I don't know what your experience as a Latina is, but my experience as a Latina old enough to remember the 80s & who also lived in predominantly Black neighborhoods for many years, was that Dickey was full of it & that's why I started fact-checking her book.

Canada's CBC didn't address Dickey's claims about the history of the Pit Bull or race, but spoke with a Pit Lobby rep, a plastic surgeon, animal activists, and victims about the bite data.

Dickey, I'm sure than on advice by the Pit Bull lobby, was very smart in saying she'd received death threats & that it was all about racism b/c it painted any criticism as racial hatred & made ppl scare to speak up lest they were treated as racist.

There is a strong lobbying organization that's been working on rewriting the history of America's fighting dog & sadly, money talks. This is from another person who in 2016 questioned how Dickey didn't include Stratton, another well-known figure in the APBT world:

Book Publishing, Not Fact-Checking Readers might think nonfiction books are the most reliable media sources there are. But accuracy scandals haven't reformed an industry that faces no big repercussions for errors.

It's sad, but nonfiction books don't get fact-check by publishing houses & people who write book reviews most of the time don't fact-check either.

I shared a link to JL Colby's 1936 book. Why would he address the bad reputation of the breed & say, as people say now, that the breed was misunderstood, if the breed reputation had been as great at the time as Dickey claimed?

Why doesn't coverage from the time doesn't align with her narrative?

She also misrepresented the war propaganda postcard as issued by the U.S. military but I couldn't find any proof of it. It seems it was a privately created propaganda and the use of a fighting dog was fitting.

Dickey not only ignored the incidents & breed specific ordinances passed in the early 20th century, but also left out the connection Pit Bulls have had & still have to white supremacy:
