Sound on classic Mac Mini - vibecoded antisolution
Sound on classic Mac Mini - vibecoded antisolution YouTube video by Mac Legacy Labs

Hi everyone, I have finally found a good use for AI.
The Mac Mini is almost perfect machine for Mac OS 9 gaming, however the sound doesn't work. Well, ... now it still does not work but you can hear the internal speaker and use the jack for external audio.

I think this graph of cost development is interesting. After the Fukushima accident the cost for nuclear rises because of fear, despite the technology evolution and prolong lifespan of some designs of power plants.

If we don't fear, it will go down again.

Nuclear *should not* cost as much to build as Vogtle and Summer were.

This is where the political will aspect comes in. Much of the costs of construction involve delays and responding to petitions trying to prevent the plant from being built after it’s been approved.

Because the thing we do does not work that well for everyone.

Germany tries Energiewende, but the transition forced them to reduce the output by cca 25 % (which just offloads the emissions to China/India, where they use coal)

List of countries and dependencies by population density - Wikipedia

US are 180 out of 242 countries sorted by population density. It makes sense there, but other countries just don't have that much free space and if there is some, there is a good reason - like a desert or mountains, which is a bad place for a power plant.

Reactors (actually the turbines) prevent blackouts.

We would be moving slower with nuclear, but if we began in 90s, Europe would be carbon neutral by now. We can be neutral in next 30 years or we can hope for a technological miracle with solars.

All I wanted from this platform is group of enthusiasts in old computers. Why is this platform full of people celebrating a murder on a university campus?

Since 1986 and still holds charge, the date was still correct on the Mac.

Now the battery can finally rest in silicon heaven.

You have to hand it to Apple. They have always made fine looking machines.

How to create bootable DVD on a mac
How to create bootable DVD on a mac YouTube video by Mac Legacy Labs

I wasted several DVDs before I manage to create a Bootable disk of Windows 7.

You have to convert .iso to master CD/DVD.
Also, attempts to make bootable flash drive are waste of time.

The most Pixar movie-ready thing happening in the @sfchronicle.com newsroom right now:

We just rescued an old 1990s Power Mac G3 from the e-waste pile & hooked it up because it’s the only thing in the newsroom that can read CD ROMs containing photos from that era.

5,31 is a nice number, but it is not the Musk number unlike 4,20.

We must wait for 42,0% at least.

I am strong proponent of nuclear power, because that is the only real solution with current technology.

We can see a lot of push to close coal powerplants, but if that means suppor and dependence on dictators, I’d rather mine at hope with higher standards on safety and cleanliness of the process.

You can see a situation in Germany in January 2020. The installed capacity was 110 GW, the peak demand was 75 GW, yet the renewables couldn’t cover the demand et all. (That does not include heat)

The “balancing of grid” can sometimes mean covering even 60 % of the demand or more.

Germany thought they could create a solution how to store energy in hydrogen, but after 20 years they failed and the battery solution does not seem that realistic at this time. You would need to store energy for months for a whole country and still you would need gas as backup ready.

@techconnectify.bsky.social made a video on renewable energy.

The biggest problem of renewables for me is, that they are actually dependent on fossil (in Europe especially on Russian gas).

Batteries improve over time, but they are not chips to double capacity every 2 years.

But I don’t really know anything about electric cars and I don’t really care that much. I don’t even have a driving licence because I just don’t need a car. And in the apartment building where I live I just can’t have a home charger, so I am totally out of that market and I ignore them completely.

I think one battery cycle is counted every time you plug it in and charge some portion. So the charging to 80 % cuts of 20 % of it’s lifespan, charging from 30 to 40 cuts 90 %. But I guess I “overguesed” how fast will the battery run out of the cycles. (Also the capacity should drop to zero)

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

I found that Tesla has about 1500 cycles. Divided by 300 days of daily charging is 5 years (and I rounded the number down by 300 days to be more generous).

Run an iPhone 3G on your PowerPC Mac desktop (Sort of) | Low End Mac

New article! Maybe some of you know about this already, but there's an old late 00s adobe air app which lets you kind-of sort-of simulate an iPhone 3G on your PowerPC Mac.
