Softness isn't weakness.
It’s a state of matter.
And a pretty strong and powerful one at that (just ask water)πŸ’§

I think sometimes the most radical strategy
is to stay soft
and keep going.

Software development scratches a similar creative itch for me as writing & performing does. Likewise soaking up a fantastic story or choreographing a dance scratches a similar analytical itch as coding does. Tech is not separate from art. Not colder nor lesser. Not the way I engage with it at least!

I just want to work in an indoor/outdoor treehouse-library-cafΓ©-dancestudio-theatre.

Is that too much to ask?!

They complain public transport is too expensive, but forget we pay billions to keep petrol cheap and highways endless. Most of us don’t hate trains & buses; we hate the version we’ve got now - late, limited, uncomfortable. But when public transit infrastructure is done right, it delivers FREEDOM!

Sometimes when you’re trying to change the system, you forget that rest is resistance too.

Text over gradient says: No thank you. I will not be focusing on "one thing at a time"... I'd rather peel off my skin 😜 (literally!)

Apparently the new pope did NOT say this. But someone did. And I love it.

β€œTo be called β€˜woke’ in a world that sleeps through suffering is no insult.β€œ

Authoritarian regimes run on lies. They fear the truth and people who act defiantly to tell the truth.

The four patriots who testified against this regime during our spotlight hearing exemplify courage.

Faded typed lettering on blemished paper stock that says "maybe there is nothing wrong with you - maybe it is just really difficult to exist in a system that was not designed to support a spirit like yours" in an all caps serif font with higgledy-piggledy characters reminiscent of older printing technology

Weak men cannot compromise. Weak men cannot build consensus. Weak men think that leadership means force. Weak men build nothing that lasts.

I’m a part time librarian and I just want to echo what I’ve seen other librarians say recently: there is a HUGE uptick in requests for social justice, climate justice, abolition, history, etc books and I just want to say nobody is giving up the fight. If anything people are fighting harder #library

LIE: Trump says Canada will spend $1.3B on border security β€œbecause tariffs”
TRUTH: Canada shared the plan on Jan 15 (before he took office)

LIE: Trump claims victory for 10k troops sent to Mexican border
TRUTH: In 2019 they sent 15k without tariff threats

He isn’t winning
He’s taking false credit

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Because they are evil, we must stand up to them.

But because they are also stupid, we needn’t be afraid to.

I loved brum! How's our little fella doing these days?

That's fair! I'm sometimes prone to techno-optimism because younger me was "saved" so many times over by tech related things, but also by books & nature & people - so I desperately just want ALL of these to play nicely together in my future (we have so much to gain!) but realism is important too! πŸ˜‰

I get that, but I also don't think solarpunk inherently excludes trade/commerce. I see us redefining our systems to be more sustainable, equitable and locally empowering. We can move away from exploitative mass-market-driven consumerism without eradicating "shopping" (aka exchanging goods/services)

Far from isolating us in virtual worlds, AR can help bridge the gap between humanity & nature, showing more people how to live harmoniously with the environment and eachother. It could democratize access to more informed decision-making and encourage more collaboration and creativity! #idream

How so?! AR Glasses that tell me when fruit is ripe to pick, or how to treat an ailing plant in my ares, that help me choose the eco friendliest products when shopping. Visual overlays teaching people about the ecosystem underfoot as we wander through community gardens. It fits so seamlessly to me!

I don't think he expected it to alter everyone's daily lifestyle in the short term, the metaverse roadmap was min 10yrs maybe 20-30yrs wasn't it? I do believe that AR/VR will be ubiqitous by then (at least I hope so, I'm absolutely in love with how it fits with the solarpunk vision of the future!)

Displaying a graphic of how it's not just people with permanent needs that can benefit from inclusive design, there are also temporary and situational needs. For example, someone who's deaf, vs has an ear infection, vs in a loud bar

The full list, with little characters representing each is:

Touch: one arm, arm injury, new parent holding a baby
See: Blind, Cataract, distracted driver
Hear: Deaf, ear infection, bartender
Speak: non-verbal, laryngitis, heavy accent (a picture of a Viking)
