The best antidote for maths anxiety is great teaching - ABC Education Maths anxiety tends to develop early, so one of the best defences against it is early success in maths. That's why great teaching from day one of primary school is so important.

🎯The best way to fix math anxiety is to teach math well. Great article from Jordana Hunter & Nick Parkinson from Grattan Institute.

Neil deGrasse Tyson

“ How sad it must be - believing that scientists, scholars, historians, economists, and journalists have devoted their lives to deceiving you, while a reality tv star with decades of fraud and exhaustively documented lying is your only beacon of truth and honesty."

The U.S. ignores home-grown ed ideas that are accelerating progress overseas One could argue that the University of Virginia cognitive psychologist Daniel Willingham is one of the most influential Americans of the 21st century. Willingham has observed that we have learned more...

British education minister Nick Gibb explains that England rose in international math and reading rankings by embracing the ideas of American leaders @dtwuva.bsky.social and ED Hirsch…

Both of whom are broadly ignored here in America.

Text from a friend just now:

"Why are “travel disruptions” the only part of this Air Canada story the CBC deems worthy of coverage? What about union busting & expecting a whole cohort of women workers to perform unpaid labour? WTF. How do these people think strikes work?"

the cover of the album, which is cream white and in the middle, a square image of 15th century Ethopian art depicting St. George, the Patron saint of ethiopia. The image is a cool piece of art, not as psuedophotorepresentative like you'd see coming out of europe at that time, it's been characterized as "proto-cubist" and it will make you want to look at more ethiopian art from that period of time, at least it is for me now after I looked this up to fill in the alt text.

When was the last time you've listened to Graceland. You might want to listen to Graceland again. It's really good.

94% of teachers have had to dip into their own pockets to buy school supplies. An estimated 1 in 6 have second jobs during the school year to make ends meet.

The average Wall Street employee got a record $244,700 bonus last year.

Something has gone terribly wrong.

Happy Shark Awareness Day!

I want people to be aware of 5 things:

1 Sharks are awesome

2 Sharks are not a threat to your safety

3 Sharks are ecologically important

4 Sharks are highly threatened

5 We can still save them- but it matters what we do, don’t reinvent the wheel, follow experts!

At the same time, you can feel the tension in the document. Imagine thinking that decoding & fluency are opposed to the "enjoyment of reading, writing", when, of course, decoding & fluency are the very basis of such enjoyment. Old whole language prejudices die hard, I suppose. #bcedchat #bced

As I retire from the teaching profession in #bced, I'm happy to see BC's MoE *finally* release a scope & sequence (ie. "learning progressions") for K-4 ELA. This should have been done a decade ago. Kudos to the teachers who pushed for it. #bcedchat curriculum.gov.bc.ca/sites/curric...

Data Shows Attendance Improves Student Success Faculty say attendance is known to promote learning and improve student outcomes. Students say they want more flexibility to manage outside pressures.

I know this is positioned for student success but I’ve been thinking, speaking and writing more about rekindling joy for faculty. Connections can cultivate that joy in a landscape of burnout.
