My nephew Matthew shared this letter with me yesterday. Five years ago, he wrote to all the living presidents and asked for advice on how to participate in public service. Only Jimmy Carter responded. A precis on how to live a life of service.

It was about 15 feet away from me, though the picture makes it look closer. I took the picture from above it as it's about a half-flight of stairs beneath me. The picture was taken at nighttime but phone camera technology makes the scene look clear and well lit. Background is a wide ditch with green grass and an empty road.

I’ve had a roof leak. Once the roof was fixed, it was lovely to hear the rain without getting wet/worrying that the ceiling would fall on me as I slept
