Civil liberty threats under Trump echo Japanese American internment | Opinion “The same failures to protect the rights of Japanese Americans and safeguard American civil liberties are happening again under Trump.”

"One of the major factors why the incarceration was an injustice was that the mass detention of 120,000 Japanese Americans, many of whom were U.S. citizens, was based purely on the grounds of their race."

California passes bill curbing utilities use of ratepayer money for political spending State lawmakers last week made California the seventh state to pass a bill limiting investor-owned utilities from using customer money to pay for political and lobbying costs.

Here’s how it works. The bill would:

1) Stop utilities from baking the money they spend on political influence into rates;

2) Establish new transparency reforms to ensure they follow the law;

3.) Mandate penalties if they break the rules.

National parks remove signs about climate, slavery and Japanese detention The removals come after President Donald Trump issued an executive order in March seeking to remove “improper partisan ideology” from federal institutions.

Actions by the Trump administration to remove signage that discusses slavery, Japanese-American incarceration during WWII, and climate change are absolutely unacceptable.

We unequivocally stand against this erasure
