"...on they came at a precipitous rate, stunted jaundiced horrors cyclopean and half-clothed, dull mouths agape, crying "pip, pip" and "hello buddies" in their grotesque subhuman voices. I crouched in my hiding place. "Poopay," they gibbered. "POOPAY!" - H.P. Lovecraft, "The Banana on the Threshold"

guy who believes that mobutu, ally of the longest period of socialist ascendency in french history, was punished by the fascist amerikkka for hestitating on privatization by being invaded by the inherently reactionary banyamulenge kulaks and the tutso-nazi states of rwanda and burundi

Ok, but why did they want O'Toole to take his sneakers off? That part's never made sense to me

The obvious answer here is that the student protest movement was broadly smeared as anti-semitic and aligned with terrorists, and a variety of institutions from government, media and the universities acted as if that smear was true, threatening, suspending, expelling and even deporting students.

There are obviously off ramps here but this feels like we’re rapidly approaching the end of this “ceasefire” experiment (to the extent it ever existed at all)

I really don’t put it past Israel to see any sort of long term deal as an unacceptable defeat, causing them to break the ceasefire knowing Trump likely will likely feel compelled to join

I think often of a New York Times photo of a little Iraqi girl tending to her parakeets in a bombed house, probably from 20 years ago now. I will think of this man and his sweet dog often now too. People just want to love what they love, care for their little beings, and instead we do this to them

I think it’s hard to get people these days to feel morally outraged about even really heinous tattoos when politicians like Mills and Schumer implicitly support ongoing genocide and war crimes

If everyone involved in this war, from the politicians to the generals, do not go to jail for this then we are doomed as a country. Failing to punish the crime of the Iraq war is why we are where we are now. Never again. Michael Mirdraghi's murderers must face justice.
