Besides, if billionaires really wanted everyone to have enough money to live, then they could afford to make that happen NOW just by agreeing to give up a reasonable share of their obscene wealth.

That's exactly why I wasn't much into comics as a kid despite being a big ol' book nerd; I simply couldn't afford to buy enough issues to follow all the story arcs across multiple titles and I hated constantly feeling like I was missing context to understand what was going on.

One of the reasons it was so hard for me to get into superhero comics when I was a kid is that by the mid-1980s all the DC and Marvel stories were written under the assumption that readers were already familiar with decades' worth of backstory across multiple titles. Now the movies are the same.

Not a chance he actually goes through with the lawsuit. He's going to say "these losers aren't worth my time and it's time to let them fade into obscurity where they belong" or "I have more important work to do than refuting every baseless rumor" or some crap like that.

If Donald Trump was my boss I’d be drinking constantly too.

It’s frankly stunning that so many places haven’t yet managed to perfect “robust, auditable voting system using paper ballots that are easily read by both humans and machines” given that schools across the United States have been using Scantron technology since the 1970s.

It's going to be like that episode of Star Trek: the Next Generation when they shut off the Holodeck but kept the sentient Moriarty program running on an external hard drive.

Agreed. If we don't nip this in the bud ASAP our descendants will be struggling to clean up the mess generations hence, just as we continue to fight to take down monuments to the Confederacy.

Arlington National Cemetery isn't supposed to be a grand monument to "victory" or "trumph." It's supposed to be a somber and respectful memorial to those who sacrificed everything to their country.

This is an absolutely obscene vanity project from Trump.

Acting like it's OK to deadname a trans person just because that individual happens to be a horrible human being is akin to acting like it's OK to use a racial slur against a PoC if they happen to be a horrible human being.

An oppressed person being an asshole doesn't grant a hall pass for bigotry.

I’m just waiting for the glorious day when someone invents some kind of machine that can lift more than a champion weightlifter. Or even a machine that can do addition faster than a genius mathematician!

Bingo. There’s a reason that the robots used in factories have all kinds of safety measures to make them OSHA compliant. A dynamically self-balancing machine is an inherently unsafe thing to put near people because its fail mode is “topple over,” causing potential damage & injury.

And a forklift can outperform a human weightlifting champion.

Machines have been able to move faster than humans since the early days of the steam engine.

…“oh but what if you need a robot that can traverse tough terrain or climb stairs” buddy I have news for you, treaded robots have been doing both those things since the 1980s.

…”but what if it needs to climb a ladder” bruh we have bots that can FLY, what imaginary problem are you trying to solve?

We’ve had bipedal humanoid robots for over a quarter century now and I still haven’t seen anyone offer a convincing explanation for why they will be more useful or capable for real-life applications than robots that use wheels/treads.

MAGA continuing to scream "RuSsIA hOaX!" is one of the most effective gaslighting efforts of our time. Ten years later, most Democrats are afraid to mention Putin's interference in the 2016 election for fear of being ridiculed as conspiracy theorists.

I've been a fan of Robbie Conal's guerilla poster art since the 1980s; he has a delightfully grotesque portraiture style that emphasizes every pore and wrinkle.

I think RFK Jr. may be the first one I've seen where the caricature is less visually disturbing than the real thing.

I love that The Deep drives one of these monstrosities in the latest season of “The Boys.” Just so perfect for a dudebro influencer sex criminal.

Thanks for the clarification; I was starting to wonder if it was a weird AI artifact but the rest of the image didn’t have any obvious tells.

If you think your life is stressful, imagine trying to write a political satire in this day and age. The creators of “The Boys” barely have a 45 minutes lead on reality at this point.

As far as the best minds in physics can tell there's no reason to believe that faster-than-light travel will EVER be possible in our universe, so even a warp drive is basically a magic fast-travel spell in a sciency-sounding wrapper. But it sure is a handy narrative device for telling fun stories!

That's how it is in most American cities too. It's kind of nuts that New York City—once considered one of the most technologically advanced, forward-thinking places in the world—still does the "bagged garbage left out on the sidewalk" thing.

God, now I'm thinking of that one time Melania tried to ape this kind of nurturing normalcy by reading a picture book to a bunch of pre-schoolers… but didn't realize that a key part of reading to young children is TURNING THE BOOK every so often so THE KIDS CAN SEE THE PICTURES.

No way Patel gets to keep his job much longer. Trump is disgusted by people who come across as “losers” on TV and has a special disdain for addicts in particular (including his own late brother).

This is a perfect encapsulation of why people have lost all faith in legacy media's willingness or ability to hold powerful people to account for their actions.

You could have boycotted. You could have demanded Trump be disinvited. Instead you sell merch then congratulate yourselves for doing so.

Or disinviting Trump.

Ditto all the conspiracy theorists who insist that Elon Musk somehow used Starlink satellites to steal the election for Trump in 2024.

Guys. It’s not a question of whether these people are evil enough to try something like that. It simply isn’t the way the technology works.

MILLION DOLLAR IDEA: A “Sound of Music” remake in which the Von Trapp family hatches a plot to burn down the mansion with all the Nazis inside a-la “Inglorious Basterds.”

During the “Goodbye, Farewell” number obviously.

Basically NOTHING in the movie makes any sense if you think about it for 5 seconds. The central premise is "there's a crop blight on Earth so we have to move everyone into hermetically sealed space habitats." Bruh, if you can build hermetically sealed habitats then why BOTHER moving them to space?
