Africa's smallest falcon. The exquisite Pygmy Falcon, a definite target bird for me in #Kenya. #BirdsSeenIn2026

A contender for the most beautiful African Bee-eater? Northern Carmine Bee-eater, one of eight species seen on my recent trip to #Kenya. #BirdsSeenIn2026
But the search, and therefore the feed, function misses # tags and users that are definitely posting, so still not glitch free.
Indeed Lee, I was thrilled!
Saved the best #Owl for its own post. Arguably 'Bird of the Trip' (especially as it's not a wader!). Seen in Arabuko forest #Kenya the beautiful, tiny, enigmatic and endangered Sokoke Scops Owl, Africa's smallest Owl. This trio are of the rufous morph. #BirdsSeenIn2026
Didn't see many #Owls on the #Kenya trip but did catch up with some at their day roosts. So, as there are none recorded yet for #BirdsSeenIn2026 here's a quartet (photography tough because, well -Owls!)
Verreaux's Eagle Owl
Greyish Eagle Owl
Northern White-faced Scops
African Wood Owl
More for #Kenya and #BirdsSeenIn2026. Here are a few #Kingfishers.
Malachite, Striped and Grey-hooded.
PS. If you want your photos to be picked by the #BirdsSeenIn2026 challenge I think that you need that # tag to be in the first three if you put in multiple tags.
And it does make it. Lovely shot Mark.
A collage of wonderful waders from the Nakuru area of #Kenya for #BirdsSeenIn2026.
Left > Right
Top Row - Ruff, Ringed Plover, Spur-winged Lapwing.
Middle Row - Marsh Sandpiper, Little Stint, Common Sandpiper and Curlew Sandpiper.
Bottom Row - Common Snipe, Greenshank, Avocet.
Kenya is great Mark, Nakuru just one of many fantastic birding areas. Still working through all my photos and sorting out the sightings but quite a few lifers were had!
A couple of ducks to end my #BirdsSeenIn2026 contributions for the day. Blue-billed Teal and Cape Teal again from Nakuru, #Kenya
Greater and Lesser Flamingo. Easy to make them look the same sort of size in cropped photos but just how small the Lessers are is obvious when seen next to Great White Pelicans (or are the Pelicans just enormous? !) Nakuru #Kenya #BirdsSeenIn2026
Possibly one of the most photographed species for birders travelling to sub-Saharan Africa, but it is hard to resist a Lilac-breasted Roller, even if it still has its early morning bed-hair! #Kenya #BirdsSeenIn2026
I just love them. We had 8 different species in Kenya including the hard to see (and even harder to photograph) Blue Headed. Still think the European is hard to beat in terms of gorgeousness - our wonderful guide in Kenya begged to differ, his favourite was Northern Carmine, pic soon
Sometimes having to stay in your vehicle helps, the birds react less to a slow moving vehicle than to a human. Nakuru was an amazing place.
Thank you Mark.
And that should be Great Cormorant (not Greater 🤦♀️)
African Skimmer and Grey-headed Gull. From Nakuru #Kenya for #BirdsSeenIn2026
Great White and Pink-backed Pelicans. Lake Nakuru #Kenya. The trees behind the Great Whites used to be on solid ground and were not wetland trees. The lake has increased considerably in size over recent years. #BirdsSeenIn2026
Lake Nakuru #Kenya Colony of the white-bellied (lucidus) race of Greater Cormorant. #BirdsSeenIn2026
A few rails/crakes etc from Nakuru #Kenya, a paradise for lovers of wetlands, for #BirdsSeenIn2026.
Red-knobbed Coot
African (Water) Rail
Black Crake
Tack Piece - 38 Shoveler, 1 Spoonbill, 26 Teal, 1 pair Wigeon, 1 pair Pintail, 14 Greylag Geese, 13 Barnacle Geese, 22 Shelduck, 1 pair Gadwall seen from Robbie Garnett Hide
