Day 21 of #30DaysOfBiking #30DaysOfBiking2026 today. Went to the local neighborhood center to give my feedback on traffic calming. Found more allies for the Orange Option for Lyndale surprisingly. Good way to connect. Now having dinner before an evening meeting.
City Council looked like it would pass decriminalization of drug paraphernalia by a veto proof 9-4 vote in committee. Then an assistant city attorney said that it might hinder the prosection of drug dealers. Vetaw and Palmisano changed their votes in response.

My favorite streets during the evening commute time (in my part of Mpls) are 40th St & Bryant.
They’re filled with people on bikes & often specifically with moms & kids on cargo bikes.
On my ride over to the park just now I passed 5 other moms on cargo bikes, including this beautiful Bullitt. 😍
80 traffic calming project areas! Potentially multiple projects per area! Speed humps, bollard installations, neighborhood traffic circles!
These 70 innocent children are all my neighbors and deserve to grow up in Minnesota in peace and safety. What ICE and the federal government have done to them is unforgivable.

Alright, I’m home now so here’s the Norm update. Yesterday at 4pm, I got a text from a family I’ve been helping who had a loved one abducted a couple of days after Renée Good’s murder. This was the family that Norm Nation kept from being evicted (and you delivered). ICE had released their loved one.

Because we don't have a car payment, I was able to pay money to a local spa for an 80 minute swedish massage.
I'd like to thank the local infrastructure and our e-cargo bikes for making it so we can live car-lite with a 16 year old car, leaving money for other things in life.

If you're going to build car infrastructure that acts as a barrier to human-scaled mobility, the project should be required to fund additional active infrastructure just like this, otherwise "no more lanes, bro".

I am not opposed to the idea of citizen legislators. I am opposed to the asking pay though. Double it at minimum.
I have long said we should pay legislators probably double the current salary - with the expectation of year-round constituent engagement during their service.
I also want to point out that $51K is more than a LOT of Minnesotans have to live on. And the legislators are freely admitting that a person can't live on $51K.
I need to see how bike parking is up there at some point...

(1) Frey loves the headline game more than he likes doing things
(2) His admin's treatment of the Loring Greenway playground was disgusting
(3) I too worry this will be an inaccessible cloistered amenity for suburbanites
(4) If it gets built halfway right every single parent will cry happy tears

Ok, here's my downtown Minneapolis fever dream fantasy: we turn City Center into our version of City Museum (non-privatized), so we have a multi-generational play space. And the 2nd floor has free public bathrooms, free showers, nap space, hang out space, and lockers. Ooh, and a kitchen or two.
