Who Controls South Africa’s Lenacapavir Rollout? Not South Africa South Africa may build the factories for lenacapavir, but licensing decisions, pricing, and supply remain dependent on Gilead, exposing the limits of sovereignty in global health.

“South Africa is being asked to celebrate a breakthrough that hasn’t happened yet”

🎯 “In an era of anti-globalism & emboldened authoritarianism, political leaders are attacking these foundations and celebrated by their supporters for doing so, each norm violation lowering the threshold for the next… The global health community should name this politics of contempt for what it is”

Breakthrough HIV Drug Is Out Of Reach For Many Who Need It Most Lenacapavir, almost 100% effective at preventing HIV, is priced by Gilead at $28,200 and inaccessible to many in low-income countries plagued by the disease.

As a pharma company, you know your position is morally indefensible when even business publications like Forbes are scathing about your refusal to supply HIV drugs to MSF and much of the world, while charging the few you do sell to exorbitant prices. 1/4

This. Statehood for all the places that have zero reps in Congress (DC + +) = actual Democracy. Then you can do the other things not the other way around.

Opinion | Big spending on social housing is untenable in this economy The D.C. mayoral candidate’s dueling plans: Bold and unrealistic vs. modest and achievable.

Jeff Bezo (owner of literally largest home in DC) and @washingtonpost.com are mad that @janeese4dc.bsky.social has an actual plan to create more affordable housing and instead urge us to settle for the same policies that made housing unaffordable. No thanks

Jeff Bezos has $222 billion.

If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over.

And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.

The Lancet — one of the world's most prestigious medical journals — just published a profile on my campaign and decades of global health work. We are in a moment that demands new leadership: leadership that protects what matters, rebuilds stronger, and prepares for tomorrow.

This is 100% evidence based. Universal services persist and are comparatively generous and the best way to help those who need more. Think Medicare vs Medicaid.

The vast majority of Americans are birthright citizens. Unless you naturalized or were born abroad to an American parent, you are a citizen because of the 14th Amendment. There is nothing constitutionally distinct about Americans born here to non-Americans. We are all literally equal citizens.

Last year we issued a report: Breaking the Inequality-Pandemic Cycle that showed inequality is making pandemics more dangerous, longer, and more costly. Removing education about health inequality won’t make viruses go away, just harder to deal with…

Apparently knowing what you’re talking about =
➡️withdrawing from WHO
➡️figuring out it did things you need
➡️then paying many times what you paid to WHO and
❌still not being able to replicate its capacities…
In which case it’s true I guess I don’t know 🤷

The Trump administration is removing a popular DC bike lane Feds say the 15th Street protected bike lane will cause more traffic during cherry blossom season, but bike advocates say it makes everyone safer.

Don’t be fooled. Removing protected bike lanes along 15th St. near the National Mall doesn’t alleviate congestion – it will cause more of it as accidents increase. It’s yet another effort by the federal government to politicize common-sense safety measures in the District.

The richest Americans saw their net worth soar 120% from 2017 to 2025.

The top 1% now control $55.8 trillion in assets — more than the G.D.P. of the United States and China combined.

Meanwhile, millions of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.

Still wondering if inequality is out of control?

US’s new scramble for Africa is biomedical imperialism From Zimbabwe to Zambia, US health deals are raising fears of a new era of biomedical extractivism.

"The US is now pursuing biological data and pathogen intelligence through policies that risk reproducing the power imbalances of colonial extraction in new scientific form...African bodies are not cheap, expendable commodities."
