To protect the health and resiliency of Illinois waters, the Wetlands Protection Act, HB3596, creates a permitting program to protect these important ecosytems so critical to flood prevention efforts, now in danger of disappearing after the Supreme Court gutted the Clean Water Act in #Sackett.v.EPA

There's also smart legislation about the unregulated influx of data centers, The #POWER Act, SB4016/HB5513, would establish nation-leading guardrails on data centers to minimize their impact on our utility bills, climate, and water resources while financially incentivising responsible centers!

Howabout addressing single-use styrofoam? SB1531 is already out of the Senate and, over 4 years, seeks to transition businesses towards more sustainable, biodegradable paper-based containers. Less microplastics in everything, y'all, especially us! #PolystyreneFoamBan

“I don’t want to wear a mask all the time” Alright. Would you please wear it sometimes? Sometimes > never. Like just keep one in your bag, and put it on when you’re in an extra crowded place maybe?

@suchnerve “I don’t want to wear a mask all the time” Alright. Would you please wear it sometimes? Sometimes > never. Like just keep one in your bag, and put it on when you’re in an extra crowded place maybe?

A classic anti-masker tactic is to claim that if you don't wear a mask 100% of the time, it isn't worth it. Untrue. Every single time you wear a mask, you reduce the chances for viruses to spread. Wearing a mask always improves public health, even if you only do it occasionally.

‘Drinking from a fetid pond’: superbug-creating genes found in UK’s largest lake Exclusive: Lough Neagh, which supplies drinking water for 40% of NI, contains genes resistant to last-resort antibiotics

Superbugs resistant to antibiotics are rising fast. I tested water at Lough Neagh (40% of Northern Ireland’s drinking water) & found high levels of antibiotic-resistant genes from human & livestock poo. If we treat waterways like sewers, this is what we get. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Dramatic rise in water-related violence recorded since 2022 Experts say climate crisis, corruption and lack or misuse of infrastructure among factors driving water conflicts

As we witness the horror of attacks on desalination plants, we need to be aware, on a warming planet, conflict over water, using water as a weapon of war, & targeting people seeking water is on the rise

- in the past 4 years, it's nearly doubled:

“We Belong to Each Other Now”: Lessons from Minneapolis “This extreme closeness, togetherness and intimacy — you cannot infiltrate your way into a space where you'll understand that," says May, a rapid responder in Minneapolis.

After months of relentless rapid response in Minneapolis, members of Defend the 612 had a moment to breathe and reflect on the lessons they’ve learned, the grief they carry, and the citywide fellowship they hope will endure. The crisis is not over, and I’m grateful they made time to speak with me.

There people on the left and right who will tell you this is only an issue for elites. Those people are insane. The obscenely unequal power of the rich is what caused this emergency. I’ll never cede “preventing mass death” as a cause of the mass left.

Most plastics, chemicals, artificial fertilisers, pesticides & synthetic fabrics are made from fossil fuels & they emit pollution throughout their life cycle, from extraction to processing to use & disposal. Fossil fuels give birth to so many major pollution sources.

High levels of toxic chemicals found in Cambridgeshire water supply Exclusive: Cambridge Water admits a supply contained four times the regulatory limit and customers never told

Forever chemicals are so long-lasting + difficult to remove that very high levels can mean some water just is no longer usable as a drinking water source. With so much pressure on water resources, we cannot afford to let PFAS pollution build.

Ventilation of the North Atlantic is Weakening 20 January 2026 / Kiel. The renewal of deep waters in the North Atlantic has slowed markedly over the past three decades. This is shown by a new study from the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Resear...

"The results also indicate that current #climate models underestimate the magnitude of the observed changes. This is caused most likely by a too simplistic representation of deep mixing processes in the ocean in numerical models"
