I took a solo trip to Grenada last year and loved it so much that I went back for a girls trip in June. This time, I also spent a few nights in Carriacou, (one of the Grenadines) which I wrote about in my recent guide to Grenada. 🇬🇩☀️

I have two stories in @usatoday.com’s latest Home Issue. For the first, I talked to design superstar Bobby Berk about updating your outdoor space. I also talked to Dominique Calhoun, CEO of Remix Living, who provided tips on how to update your primary bedroom on a budget. 🏡✨
I had the pleasure of talking to the Queen of Romance Lit, Jasmine Guillory, whose latest book, Flirting Lessons, is out this week. The novel is set in Napa Valley, and we gabbed about her favorite scenes and where she likes to hang out in the famous wine town. 🍷 📖

"The influencers in this story...are often on the pulse of the latest openings, new menus and underrated restaurants that may not get exposure from traditional media."
Important story here:
I had the privilege of penning this month’s cover story for Travel Weekly which is about the importance of Black food content creators. ✨
one of the wildest things about some of the journalism being produced by the largest legacy news outlets in the U.S. is that they put critical, life-saving information behind paywalls.
this isn't a new observation or experience for me but it enrages me every time.
Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.
If you don't have a hobby or something you're passionate about outside of family or work, please make time to find that thing that keeps you going. It is not a luxury. It is vital now. #MentalHealth
Woo hoo!

As I'm starting back in book publishing, I'd like to know of Black (& POC) freelancers w/ experience copyediting, proofreading, editing, design, marketing. The imprint I'm at is creating a #freelance database, so if you have website/LinkedIn, which every #freelancer should, lemme know. DO NOT DM ME.
Black history is every month all the time, of course, but I’ll play this game. Almost a decade ago, Dan Kois and I put together the Black Film Canon, then we updated it in 2023, and it’s a great (but def not exhaustive!) primer for black film history:

A reminder that fiction — books, film, games, what have you — is always political. The willful absence of “politics” in any work is itself a political choice and a political act. Who gets to tell (and sell) stories is political. It might be an undercurrent — covert, not overt. But it’s there.
It was an honor to be included again in this year’s Black History Month issue for @usatoday.com. I have two stories in print: an interview with cookbook author Kiano Moju and a profile of Curtis Doucette, owner of the historic Dewdrop Inn in New Orleans. ✨✍🏾
