He goes to find Carver at their usual spot but he's freaking out and crying. As it turns out, he ran away from home with Anabelle (thinking that what happened to Nico was going to happen to her), and accidentally ended up choking her to death in a panic, having decided it was "the better way"
The bird situation has cooled off, but The Dove keeps pecking at his head, harrassing him, saying that he's being manipulated by The Crow and that he doesn't know what he's doing. She tells him that she's going to wring out his guts and various other graphic things.
Nico talks to his mother ab what happened, and she calls him pathetic for "not even being able to fight back," and that he, "had it coming to him." She also spills that she calls him "Nico," bc that was his bio father's name. There is a skull in the basement, and Nico puts two and two together.
Flash forwards a bit later and Carver isn't acting right. He's wayyy more paranoid than usual around Anabelle, and his usually jolly demeanor has completely vanished. He's worried about "Alice" too, and Nico doesn't really understand why.
Carver asks Nico if he's a girl, and Nico is a bit confused, but says that his original name was Alice and that he should call him that from now on. (in the original draft, Nico's pronouns switch to "she" here)
