Jennifer Horgan: We have set a new standard for what angry men can achieve. It's terrifying Angry men's blockades stopped my mother being with her dying brother-in-law last week. She was not the only vulnerable person whose needs were trampled on

Excellent article, this journalist articulates everything that was bubbling inside of me around the protests last week.

Why are we so quick to tell others what they should call themselves? – The Irish Times I don’t understand the issue around students changing their names from ones associated with one gender to those associated with another

A refreshing take on names and pronouns in school settings. The teacher that wrote this article is the anti-Enoch abd sees the issue for what it is: nothing more than basic respect for the individual.

Ice flight stopped at Shannon Airport on St Patrick’s Day while deporting Ukrainians Private jet hired by Ice agency also stopped on its return journey to Arizona

Ice flight stopped at Shannon on Patrick’s Day while deporting Ukrainians
So we are facilitating deportations by the brutish, murderous ICE-here deporting Ukrainians back to war zone. On top of the delivery of the bowl of shamrock this is just shameful #spéirghorm

Release of the 1926 census Orlaith McBride, Director of the National Archive

Just a month to go until the first census of the Irish Free State in 1926 is released.
I can’t wait to see what information I can discover on my ancestors, my grandparents and their families

Happy Sheelah's Day. This feast, largely no longer celebrated in Ireland, commemorates either St Patrick's wife or mother, who probably didn't exist. So let's celebrate a similarly-named mysterious figure today instead: the sheela na gig!

Yesterday some ‘Christians’ of this county were having a hissy because the President called Patrick a migrant & by his first name instead of Saint. Today those ‘Christians’ are delighted a new bill will make family reunification more difficult for migrants here. Patrick would be horrified by them.

I’m not sure the US is a useful moral yardstick though. There are serious shortcomings in how sexual crimes and crimes against women are handled across many jurisdictions — including the UK and Ireland. An arrest can look like progress, but conviction rates and systemic reform are the real test.
