Born on 10 June 1899 in Dresden Germany, Anita Berber shocked and entertained the cabaret and bourgeois crowds of the Weimar Republic right up to her untimely death at the age of 29.

If I'd been near any I'd have loved to go. This is a rabbit hole (and RFK) I can never get enough of, when it involves serious research.
I'm getting my copy at the weekend and will devour it
No I'm in Hertfordshire these days

The Jay Cedric by Cedric Morris (1889–1982)
A member of Artists' Rifles during WWI.
Morris bred birds as a hobby. Discussing his Peregrine Falcons (1942), he explained he was attempting to "provoke a lively sympathy with the mood of the birds which ornithological exactitude may tend to destroy."
We probably all know someone who has gone over the edge into that cesspit. It's impossible to have a conversation with them without them bringing up something about vaccines/migrants/CCTV/ endless propagandist tripe and some days I really despair as it feels like a lost battle.
Every day I see more & more posts along the lines of this thread. The only Great Replacement I see going on is to replace the content of people's minds with fascist ideology.
Yesterday it was all about the grannies being radicalised by GB News & Facebook (I've seen it happen among my friends)

Romanian authorities welcomed back the 2,500-year-old Golden Helmet of Cotofenesti and two ancient gold bracelets after the treasures were recovered from thieves who stole them from a Dutch museum.

It's about time there was a new series of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue
For Earth day, here's the much debated Flammarion engraving, possibly used to illustrate the story of the "good anchorite", who boasted of having been as far as the end of the world and said that he had been obliged to stoop low, on account of the joining of the sky and earth in that distant region
I can well imagine that he's funding his lifestyle from the "patriot donations", and was relying on his other dodgy funding for the flags, leaflets, marches and whatever other propaganda materials he puts his (fake) name behind.
Won't it be great if the new guy brings them all down, like dominoes.
The way the light illuminates her hair TL is painted so beautifully
Funding dried up/plug pulled because Orbán was ousted? Wasn't he involved in the money chain between Putin and the European Right Wing?

I wasn't particularly bothered about Prince until a mate dragged me along to one of his live shows at Wembley.
There are many standout moments from bands I've loved and seen live, but Prince playing the guitar solo in Purple Rain is one the best things I've ever experienced in my life
I was totally meh about him until I (reluctantly) went to see him live. (The only time I'd ever been converted by going to a live performance before that, was Bruce Springsteen.)

Everybody's looking 4 the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul
The steps U take are no easy road
But the reward is great
4 those who want 2 go
What's the use in half a story, half a dream
U have 2 climb all of the steps in between
(I never envied Wendy & Lisa more)

Photo of the Arno river at Pisa, looking upstream towards the city center, with the early morning sun rising in the background to the right, partially obscured by a line of clouds running diagonally across the sky, all of it reflected in the placid river water.

Dan Snow on ch5 in Egypt is right to say visit sites as early in the day as possible to avoid crowds & heat
We were lucky to have the sites to ourselves in 1998, exactly 12 months after extremists massacred 62 people at Deir el-Bahari
Egyptians told us only the British were crazy enough to visit

A particularly ornate statue from Hadrian’s villa identified as a double sided portrait of the god Osiris and Apis. The emperor built a get away space outside Rome based on the temple and party town of Canopus in the Egyptian Delta. #AncientBluesky #Egyptology
