A very astute (and upsetting!) piece that touches on four scary cultural trends: 1) The demand for spelled-out moral clarity in stories 2) A growing inability to understand different types of narratives 3) The "customer's always right" version of fandom 4) The growth of fandom as a social identity.

The response to the conversion therapy video has been amazing. I’ve gotten messages from lots of NHS staff appalled to learn about the present-day abuses, who want to hold senior managers to account. As I say in the video, allowing this abuse undermines the entire NHS! 🏥

Visual for Trump's proposed budget via Axios: https://www.axios.com/2026/04/04/trump-budget-pentagon-domestic-spending
As inflation rises, Trump's new 2027 budget calls for billions to expand the already enormous military budget while continuing to drastically slash what remains of social safety net programs for poor and working people.
A government for elite monsters with violence directed at everyone below them.
This doesn't sound like much but these beans are super photoperiod sensitive and we didn't even think they would flower outside of Peru. Now that we know they CAN flower we can figure out how to make them flower

Seems good to see this kind of language appearing on TV instead of like on a bluesky post with 300 boosts
a tumblr post with a user named bvckbiter writing "is this character good or bad" "is this shop unproblematic or not" "is this arc deserving of redemption or not" girl... underneath it is a screenshot from the show shōgun of a character saying "i don't have time for this christian nonsense"

Tired of finding new ways to phrase "working for the new york times makes you at least a collaborator if not an active participant in a genocidal project"
this is normal competitive behavior for ojousamas. If you encounter them doing this in the wild, they are fighting over access to territory, food, or mates. It's important to not interrupt them or they might turn on you instead.
"That time I was reincarnated as a loli succubus" - Husband and wife artist/writer duo with no criminal record.
"Wandering Swordman" - 5 counts of CSAM possession, 2 counts of soliciting a minor. Donates a to group wanting to return Japan to a monarchy.
Look, I don’t hate Drew Goddard as much as some folks, but I think it’s an absolute slap in the face to not let a trans women write and direct the next Matrix movie. We have so few jobs in this industry and this should be a chance to uplift new talent from OUR community. Not that Hollywood cares.
People forget this but Chuck Norris jokes were originally Mr. T jokes. I don't know why that changed but clearly the world would have been better if it hadn't

Tarcísio se vende como um moderado, mas, na realidade, é um grande aliado de Bolsonaro. Seu governo foi criticado pela reorganização do modelo de ensino público, privatizações, violência policial, entre outros temas.

I choose love over hate.
And bigger love when love comes.
If you're unsure about trans people,
Chiitan isn't asking you to understand.
Just watch over them kindly.

The ‘gender critical’ movement, just like anti-vaxxers and every other conspiracist community, thrives on generating smoke. “This report was suppressed!” “This agency released a statement!” “This doctor was fired for speaking out!”
They drown you in this shit because they can’t win on the merits.
Never forget that the primary tactic of this movement is distraction. They point to medical statements, procedural wins and tangentially related anecdotes because *they have no evidence of their core claim*
If lots of kids were transitioning without assessment they would be talking about that.
"Why does BlueSky hate journalists so much?" This shit, right here, in a story that had absolutely nothing to do with trans people: "narcissistic lawyers forcing puberty blockers on pre-teens to advance their political ambitions"
Recurring pattern: The US makes policy choices that have massive policy consequences for other countries, but rate at best a couple days of domestic news coverage. Then a decade or two later we’re utterly baffled that people in those places despise us. www.liberalcurrents.com/what-elon-ha...
Fortunately there is also not currently a state-backed campaign of legal persecution and repression seeking to bar that minority group from accessing public spaces, schools, travel, employment and social activities like sports.
I’m a serious newspaper. If that were happening I’m sure I’d notice.
Like most rational and scientific minded people, I take my cues on the healthcare needs of minority groups from the Catholic Church, the Alliance Defending Freedom, and sundry rightwing influencers with a weird fixation on birth rates. I am the New York Times, a serious newspaper.
The science doesn’t seem so settled after all, and it’s important to understand what happened here. The approach of left-of-center Americans and our institutions — to assume that when a scientific organization releases a “policy statement” on a hot-button issue, that the policy statement must be accurate — is a deeply naïve understanding of science, human nature and politics, and how they intersect. At a time when more and more Americans are turning away from expert authority in favor of YouTube quacks and their ilk — and when our own government is pushing scientifically baseless policies on childhood vaccination and climate change — it’s vital that the organizations that represent mainstream science be open, honest and transparent about politically charged issues. If they aren’t, there’s simply no good reason to trust them.
This is anti-vaxx logic. It is not "naive" to accept the conclusions of experts in technical fields.
