Reminder: Invitation to review | Is Statistical Analysis an Appropriate Tool to Apply to the Alleged Resurrection of Jesus?

Good news, due to data collected over the Easter break, we can conclude: He has significantly risen, p < .05!

Are your DMs open? It wasn't my own course design so I don't want to divulge too much, and it's really quite specific πŸ˜…

I've taught on a course like this but tbh wouldn't recommend this approach. Students end up lacking the basic stats literacy skills to read the literature which is mainly based around interpreting p-values, and other faculty struggle to supervise them for BSc/MSc theses.

Sounds to me like a Bayesian reanalysis might be in order ;-)

This is so cool and looks amazing! 🀩 Will you have a blog post explaining why the Cauchy is particularly useful? (I guess it has something to do with the tails?)

Tbh that probably doesn't even deserve the term "questionable" research practice anymore πŸ™ˆ

I think the only way preregistration could solve the issue would be if all analyses and data cleaning steps were fixed in code, but then again, when can we ever perfectly predict all the crazy things people do?

I'm with you on this one! I've been very disillusioned about this since writing the paper about p-hacking with Felix. Those who hack will find a way...

Yes, I think (or better, hope!) so! However, once you've activated link sharing, I think the link will keep working, so it's safest to copy everything over to a new document!

We had a similar problem where suddenly snarky comments appeared from the nowhere in a Google doc with link sharing activated (link only being shared with 2 people). Had to migrate the doc, couldn't figure out who it was, best explanation random hacker. Treat Google docs as open to everyone.

No worries! We'll be organising more events in the future! 😊 Also, I'd love to make connections across faculties, so if you're generally interested in chatting Open Science / reproducibility shoot me an email!

Hey, we were so caught up in discussions that we forgot to press the record button! πŸ™ˆ Next time!

And yeah, we'll add a timezone next time - I assumed that fact that the event happened at the in Liverpool in person at the same time would be enough of a hint, but I was mistaken πŸ˜„

Thank you, Kirsten! We hope you'll stay in touch!

We've planned this as a synchronous event to facilitate discussion, but if there's interest, I can ask the speakers if they would feel comfortable with having their presentations recorded!

Just here to throw tapply() into the mix πŸ˜‰ (I've also occasionally used group_by)

+1 for "effect size hacking" (I think @nicebread.bsky.social and I used this in our p-hacking paper)

I'm now also looking for a postdoc with strong Bayesian background and interest in developing Bayesian cross-validation theory, methods and software. Apply by email with no specific deadline (see contact information at users.aalto.fi/~ave/).

Others, please share

Hive mind, I need your help! What are good resources to give to a PhD student to catch up on basic calculus in their own time?

For example: logarithms, finding the integral/derivative of a function, basic matrix algebra...

High-school level is fine, no need for proofs!

Oops, I didn't even notice! Got distracted by your attempts to pronounce Felix's last name πŸ˜… I thought your comments about rounding p-values were interesting! I remember we also had a debate about whether to include it or not... Definitely debatable!
