Not the same themes but it did give me No One Will Save You vibes in that sense (everyone go watch that one instead).
I ASSUME it was trying to portray religious trauma and the weight of caring for a dying parent but none of that was visible at any point. The most work we ever see her put into it is her offering her mother water. Then she goes to a party 40 minutes away and there are zero consequences to it.
I keep thinking about how this movie could have been great if they would have let this woman suffer in literally any way on screen. (The bagel can stay, that was funny as hell).
