And to add to the confusion, as I mentioned in a footnote, the Scottish Gaelic pronunciation is “Scoon”, at least when it comes to the place name.

Me too - though I fancy some of it hasn’t aged well (and was a little on the edge at the time). Lots to like about it though!
This is sadly becoming universal. I have the same problem with undergrad students here in Melbourne, Australia. Forget the AI (except for literacy in how it works and what it can and can’t do); teach them the basis of how to use a computer and file system.
“The Almighty Johnsons” isn’t as strong, but still worth a look. A family of brothers in Auckland are more or less modern incarnations of the Norse gods, though not always the best ones - and their powers mostly get them into trouble.
I think it’s on Amazon Prime at the moment, if you have access?
I learned about this from @99pi.org - it’s a great episode.
Though it’s a bit much to call the newer puppet a fake - it was also crafted by a puppet maker, after all!
(If you like TV puppets, I recommend learning about the greatest Australia puppet show, Mr Squiggle, and the family behind it.)
Yeah, I haven’t played it enough either! I have all the expansions too - it was a birthday present to myself a few years ago. Lost every time so far, but I’m not aggressive enough! (I like the Science motivation too much.) Definitely want to have another go soon.
Sink ‘em all I say. (I love Nemo’s War.)
I am not an automation games knower, but now I kind of want to try Satisfactory just because yikes. (What’s the other game?)
I’m getting a lot more than that at the moment, but I’m teaching five classes - around 120ish students. Half of them are online so it works differently. But if I was only teaching my regular on-campus classes, yes, it would be under $6k. (It’s a different story for the one I also lecture.)
(And if not; that’s okay. Rest up and try again when you can.)
The brain gremlins from the fucked up elements of our culture come for us all. We work hard to overcome them in ourselves, and put out into the world the energy that we hope will make it easier for others.
So: I don’t know you but you’re great. I hope you win against the gremlins today.
We're entering the last week to contribute to funding @continuemag.bsky.social, the kickstarter just jumped over $80KAUD!! It would be really good to get it to $100K because it would be funny for @serrels.bsky.social to have to buy a scooter. 🛴

It sounds amazing - I want to play it. I read a great review of it for the We Read the Bloggies project, if you’re keen: podcast.bloggies.org/@WeReadTheBl...
Oh that’s doable for sure.
Today, as I watch generative AI ruin my life and those of my students, I would just like every AI wonk who has never thought about the consequences of anything but their bank account to injure themselves slightly in some odd way, then get absolutely fucked advice from the chatbot they ask for help.
"AI is not a magical tool built by people in San Francisco making millions of dollars a year and pushing their companies to insane valuations. Artificial intelligence is an extractive technology that relies on the brutal labor of underpaid workers around the world"

This was great! Thanks for sharing.
You had us at “annotated by Rincewind”.
So far so good! It was just all the instructions we could find were from the initial release in June, and had a lot of warnings about having to do it during setup, and not much about the consequences for the old Switch. (I bought Anna one today so she could play Pokopia.)
Do I know anyone who has transferred from Switch to Switch 2? What happens if transfer save data for a game you only own as a physical card?
A bingo card titled “MICF BINGO 2026”. The card is a five by five grid, and each box contains a different item to check off. From top to bottom, left to right, the items are: - gratuitous musical number to showcase range - see a cooked late night show - crepe! - go to three shows in one night - fake text exchange as visual prop - joke about dating an AI - stand-up has a special lil outfit to perform in - “so I’m single…” - too many props? - see a solo debut - tech whoopsie - clown nudity - see Local Laws - buy some merch - joke that’s a thinly-veiled ask for coke - “the algorithm” mentioned - comedian clearly farming crowdwork for reels - beef between comedian and reviewer - see some sketch - full meal from 7-Eleven - see an act you’ve never seen - fee the vibe turn at 3am at the artist bar - “I’m (insert age here)” as a punchline - this live podcast is just two comedians turning their friendship into a job - whoops! Horny for some goofball!
It’s almost time for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, so for the ninth year running, I have made a bingo card for it.
It’s sort of (thanks timezones) both the anniversary of Douglas Adams’ birth (11 March) and Terry Pratchett’s death (12 March).
I don’t think their work is very similar, despite how they’re lumped together. But they’re two of the writers who most shaped me. At least, my good bits.
GNU both of ‘em.
Yeah, I did that one for fun. Then I thought I should do one with commentary instead.
The other Ben McKenzie* is at it again - this time with a documentary film! I’m looking forward to seeing him expose more grift.
Less looking forward to the emails I will get that are meant for him, but hey, I’ll take one for team McKenzie.
* In reality, of course, I’m “the other Ben McKenzie”.
Not coincidentally, I ordered my copy earlier today (Australian time).
New episode alert! With the fabulous Sharmini Kumar. Available everywhere you listen to podcasts!
Discussing #Bridgerton S4E3
I only vaguely know, but I think this is a great compliment? So thank you! I think.
