Automatic military draft registration starts this year: What to know A new rule passed by Congress will automatically register eligible men in the Selective Service, or military draft system, instead of requiring them to register themselves.

Young men between 18 and 25 years old are required to register with the Selective Service System in case Congress and the president authorize a military draft. Now they don't have to, they're being automatically registered.
