“We’ve toiled and lost jobs just to end up with this crappy economy”
I wish it was just jobs & toil. The govt have gutted pay equity, housing, food banks, disability support at the same time as pumping money into landlords, tobacco companies, & any pet projects that help donors not NZers #nzpol

A storm every eight days needs a systemic response- I could not agree more - and hope people are ok here in NZ in the Wellington region after last night - www.rnz.co.nz/news/environ...
We turned rivers into road and wetlands into suburbs.
Extreme weather turns them back to rivers and wetlands.
This is what the #ClimateCrisis looks like.
I feel like I had my “veil lifted from my eyes” moment pretty early, attending a pre-election youth forum at 16ish and asking MPs and candidates if they’d support civics education and having the whole right wing go “nah”
This is plainly sensible, the technology now exists, and is cost competitive, to make our own energy for much more of our needs. This is the single best economic action any government can take. Why send $10b offshore every year when we now don’t have to?:

Over the past ten years NZ has averaged 55.9 days annually under a State of Emergency each year, and 66.6 days over the last five. In the 10 years prior to this, NZ averaged only 13.4 days per year.
Consider the implications of central government continuing to refuse to believe in climate change.
#NewZealand could and should have dirt cheap electric power
Most of our generation is renewable and built decades ago paid for by the country
The $10bn+ in dividends could have been invested in new renewables also

I'd support this, who wouldn't?

A good read. We are being let down by our Govt & @healthnz.govt.nz in our Covid response.
Covid19 is still very much with us.
Long Covid has high prevalence and impact: Where is the Government response?

This is major but still people refuse to mask, healthcare settings and schools won't clean the air, and this number will only grow larger and larger unless we make changes to our behaviour as a society and adapt to the reality of these times.
We should be learning from other countries...
"Economist Shamubeel Eaqub has taken a shot at New Zealand’s four-stage national fuel plan, saying that it’s along these lines: “do nothing, do nothing, do nothing, and then, oh f..k”. What an apt description. #nzpol

Risk of death becomes insignificant 12 mos after mild acute infection.
How many people are going 12 months without catching covid these days?
Covid: The auto-renew subscription plan.
The first IREX boat would be in revenue service by now
The second end of the year
Dame Cindy Kiro and Professor Tom Roa smile warmly at Tom's investiture as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
On Saturday our Kaumātua Professor Tom Roa was invested as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori language and education 🏅
Today PM Luxon said "we need to make sure we're not doing dumb stuff, for example, building back into flood plains."
Yet earlier in the year, his corrupt fast track law approved exactly that. This will cost ALL Auckland ratepayers as the council now has to put into place unplanned flood mitigation.

Once again, as a result of the damage bound to affect multiple communities, I'm sure Aotearoa's awesome network of marae will do what they always do for ALL in the community: feed and shelter *any who need it*.
But then... the Govt will go back to running Māori down again afterwards 😒😡
sure, but there should have to be concessions from the duopoly in that case... otherwise they'll just rort it and price gouge again like they did throughout covid

a “ceasefire” that lasted 17 hours and killed 254 people in lebanon is not a ceasefire and referring to it as one is inaccurate
I feel really let down by MoH on masking. Yes, they advertise to wash our hands and not attend if we're unwell, but promoting masking is being ignored.
I'm at most risk from my health team - the very people I rely on to keep me breathing.
Health policy people’s aversion to masking needs to be studied
NZ crisis management in a nutshell: rich pricks don't want to be on a team with you, and this government is beholden to rich pricks.

Things that help calm the nervous system, quickly:
- Box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4, repeat)
- Immerse your face in cold water (activates mammalian dive reflex)
- Humming (stimulates vagus nerve)
- Exercise (anything helps, outside even better)
- Impeachment and removal
Apparently, in Feb alone National spent $92,000 on ads 😱😱😱 it seems that wealthy donors who've done well under Luxon want 3 more years of the same - and they're paying good money to make sure of it.
It might've been a good 3yrs for the very wealthy, but it's been grim AF for the rest of us.
An excellent article about the prevalence of long covid and the need to provide support for sufferers. There are fairly simple steps we can take to minimise transmission of all viruses in public spaces.
Unfortunately, no one seems willing to implement any of them or acknowledge the issue of LC.
Spoiler: It’s Covid
The failure from some of the medical community to acknowledge that Covid is vascular and causing heart damage, neurological damage and immune damage is puzzling. You guys are also at risk.
I’d love to see us get rid of the time change and stick with the summer time year round
John Campbell returns to RNZ on Mon 13 April & Aotearoa has the chance to hear coalition MPs & CEOs be interviewed by someone aware of their own Pākehā privilege & who demonstrably gives a shit
Potential for reality-checked lens being applied to homelessness, fuel crisis, cost of living & 🏳️⚧️ kōrero 🤞
