The Palintir mini manifesto at least makes it clear that if you buy their software you are buying it to a transnational political, military and economic project. The problem is public procurement officers are not exactly best placed to make that sort of decision. Software is politics!

Yiiiip. Ironic given the main maintenance work of the world - caring, organising, stewarding - is traditionally women's work!

Also neglects many, many excellent women's contributions to this topic - @shannonmattern.bsky.social alone.

Maintain We are a community of people interested in how we maintain different parts of our world. We recognize the often hidden work done in repair, custodianship, stewardship, tending and caring for the thing...

Hi Martin!

Thanks for tagging me. Not actively right now - we closed in 2023 because our community wasn't big enough to actively - cough - maintain it.

I do think we were on to something, and I'd like to pick it up again in some form in the future.

To clarify - accuracy of information supplied to patients as part of a digital service

My non digital pal is applying for a role to be the acting Subject Matter Expert in a digital team (in context, ensuring validity and accuracy of patient information).

What should I send her about how agile teams work, sprint cycles, different roles, what to expect, how to be a good SME?

Reading in the Age of AI Why books might be our best defence against cognitive offloading

Thinking deeply is becoming a radical act. True reflection and analysis risk falling by the wayside.
What practices can you embed into your daily life to preserve your ability to think independently?

The only way I see that the Paralympics are happening is ppl posting stuff like “wow I don’t have any excuse for not running a marathon” and GENUINELY can you all cut that shit out. These are athletes who have trained their whole lives! You wouldn’t be able to to it just because you’re abled!!

TikTok says it won't encrypt DMs claiming it puts users at risk TikTok tells the BBC it won't join rival platforms such as WhatsApp and Messenger in using end-to-end encryption.

There's some good tech reporting across the BBC, but...

This morning we have end-to-end encryption being described as 'controversial privacy tech' www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Microsoft says it does not think US ICE uses firm's tech for mass surveillance of civilians Microsoft said on Wednesday it did not think the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency was using its technology for mass surveillance of ‌civilians but added that it provided cloud-based pro...

Companies love claiming that their cloud storage, data analytics, info fusing isn't "surveillance" because it's not "collecting" data.

This is not true. Filing cabinets were part of surveillance. Analysts reading and making sense of transcripts from hidden microphones were part of surveillance.

Good overview of the workload on staff and MPs, and what the role of the MP is/could/should be.

I prioritise dealing with casework quickly over replying to policy emails because e.g. helping a person access disability support is more important to me...
