An essential read for anyone in #nz - the fuel crisis is far, far worse than the govt is letting on energyandresilience.substack.com/p/every-coun...
What is the Gaeilge for “based af”? ☘️✊🫡
When you're paying $3 a litre for petrol... Remember Luxon's govt crashed the EV market, slashed public transport & cycleway spending & cut fees for importing gas guzzlers by 80% - turning NZ into a dumping ground for the worlds dirtiest most oil hungry vehicles.

New shorter ferries: $596 million.
Paid to Hyundai for zero big ferries: $222 million.
Total cost of ferries: $818 million.
So we're paying $409 million per smaller rail enabled ferry.
We would have paid $225 million per larger rail enabled ferry.
Saving money? Pull the other one.
I do not understand how the ABSOLUTELY VOLUNTARY destruction of the original ferry replacement is not a massive political scandal?!
It was a reflexive ideological decision that has disadvantaged the country significantly.
Really proud of this work with Dr Jennifer Smith (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāpuhi) and our amazing UC Master of Audiology students. You can now screen your hearing in te reo Māori and New Zealand English at nzhst.canterbury.ac.nz
Yeah I love how species lookup is integrated into the iPhone photos app :)
Cutting dialysis just to save a couple of dollars is truly toxic behaviour. But let's ask ourselves the question: where did the money that used to be available to keep people alive actually go?
A short thread.

So if we want to know why dialysis is being rationed, there's a clear answer: it's so the 311 richest families in the country can enjoy one of the lowest effective tax rates in the world. We're killing people in order to make the ultra-rich ultra-richer
A number of months ago, many Americans online—myself included—began telling foreign nationals to stop coming to the United States (for now) for their own safety. The events described below are exactly why.
Stay away from America, friends. Don't come here.
"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." –Justice Louis Brandeis
Words spoken many years ago that are just as relevant today.
We must continue the fight to get big money out of politics.
Yep, mostly good - you might have to carefully go onto the road from time to time to avoid excessive water on the bike path, but otherwise OK :)

Hipkins needs to say now this contract will be scrapped by December with no penalties.
National has no right just before an election to lock this country into a $2.7 billion shit sandwich policy not based on fact in order pay off its donors.
Just at the end of Kimbolton Lane - feels a bit weird walking all the way to the end but it’s totally worth it :) maps.app.goo.gl/PbUoxHC9TBFH...
Just saw that a Wikipedia article I wrote (well, started) almost 20 years ago is on the main page today! Nice way to start the day :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Men...

A triptych, nay, a tragedy in three parts, wherein an old man doll cruelly meets his fate (after having been placed in a microwave by a toddler), leaving a grieving widow doll to mourn his loss.
Our kids had those same dolls! Until the unfortunate microwave accident took out grandpa, that is.
Love a good breadboard :)
And this rather surreal one. Surname: Greatorix

¡Vigga da muchísimo miedo en este dibujo! Y puedo distinguir perfectamente a cada personaje, incluyendo las múltiples encarnaciones del Barón Rikard.

For context: Total cost of all reparations paid to Māori for land confiscations to date = $2.7 billion
Total cost of the economic lunacy of this government reinstating mortgage interest deductions to landlords = $2.9 billion (over 4 yrs), plus $760 million every single year thereafter
our govt wants to spend 327 times more on a single road ($18b) than they are currently spending yearly on all of basic science in new zealand ($55m) #nzpol
