Today is United Nations Chinese Language Day, which highlights the rich cultural and historical contributions of the Chinese language, one of the six official languages of the United Nations! Our celebrations last week included a Sichuan opera Bian Lian performance and interactive booths.

Grade 6 Digital Wisdom students recently attended a Math Therapy worthshop, hosted by @themathguru.bsky.social. Students busted common math myths, thought about ways math is used that you may not expect, and found their Math Superpowers.

Arts Week at the Junior School was absolutely magical! It featured an artist panel, dance and drama workshops, performances by our Primary Choir and the Steel Pan Club, school-wide singing, and fine arts installations. This week reminded us just how vibrant and talented our arts community truly is.

Eight Upper School students went to University of Toronto Schools last week for the fourth annual Brilliancy and Resiliency Conference! The theme was "Roots: Belonging as Black Canadians, Embracing Culture" and we were joined by students from 18 other independent schools.

On Monday, four Upper School students attended the VersaFi Toronto Job Shadow Day for Women! They discussed how to effectively network and make elevator pitches, heard from a panel of senior leaders from TD, and met with women leaders from different financial firms in downtown Toronto.

The Havergal Chamber Choir performed at the Upper Canada College (UCC) Music Night last week! Our choir performed both with UCC's choir, The Bluenotes, and on their own as featured guests. We look forward to hearing The Bluenotes perform at Havergal at our upcoming Earth Day Prayers.

Last week we welcomed grandparents and friends to the Junior School for Grandpals Day! They enjoyed a reception, visits to their grandchildren's classrooms, and tours around the school. Thanks to our Grandpals, who showed such curiosity, were actively engaged, and made the morning such a success!

The spring term of Gator Connections kicked off last week! The Junior School was thrilled to welcome over 20 Upper School volunteers to connect with Gr. 6s. Through a lively game of "Hot Seat," students met and discover shared interests. Buddy pairings will be created based on these connections.

Yesterday was Grad Hunt, our tradition where Grads hide around the Upper School and Gr. 7 students find them. When discovered, Grads have to give up their Grad belts to the students that found them. Gr. 7s are wearing the belts with pride today and also took the Grads' seats this morning at Prayers!

Grade 8 students enjoyed an engaging Franco-African cultural experience during their French classes with guest artist and master drummer Amadou Kienou! Through hands-on djembé drumming, students explored West African rhythm, communication, and culture in an interactive and memorable way.

We're incredibly proud of Lia in Grade 10, who spent two weeks in China representing Team Canada at the 2026 World Junior Wushu Championships. Her results were outstanding: gold in Changquan (Handform), gold in Gunshu (Cudgel), and bronze in Daoshu (Broadsword).

Our Chartwells Food Services team hosted a Good Mood Food Day at the Junior School, highlighting foods that support focus, strength, and overall wellbeing. Students explored healthy cafeteria options, sampled a homemade electrolyte drink, and learned simple tips to stay hydrated and active.
