Cycling in Graz (“Austria’s cycling capital") is general good. Infrastructure is not up to Dutch standards, but here’s my top 5 things other cities could do.
Number 5: make roads one way, except for cycling.

@chionwurah.bsky.social hi, you see the car in the background blocking the path. You can vote to allow councils to ban pavement parking. Hope you vote to allow councils the freedom to do this.

I don’t think we talk nearly enough about the fact that corporations like Amazon, don’t pay a single cent to maintain the roads they use, the transportation system they use, the courts they use, they pay nothing for the infrastructure that is absolutely critical to their business.

Electric motorbikes ridden wrong way down M62 near Liverpool Two people aged 21 and 17 have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Oh so the BBC does know the difference between an electric motorbike and an ebike. Next time they deliberately mislabel it, they don’t have an excuse.

Pick up online order parking spots

Pick up online order parking spots

Ask your local supermarket if they could put in a bike rack and …

“We don’t own the parking lot, you’ll have to speak to the property manager”

Weird because they have the power to make changes when their priority customers have special needs.

Pictures of this really need to become a thing of the past. It’s disgusting they feel they have to use the carriageway.

It feeds into other issues too, like cambers on dropped kerbs as @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social has pointed out recently.

This is our moment, we're on the cusp of a BIG win for pedestrians in England We know pavement parking is not only an irritation for many, but outrightly dangerous to wheelchair users, visually impaired people and parents walking their children to school. Write to your MP toda...

One of the downsides of living in Wales is I can't get involved in this @livingstreets.bsky.social campaign to address pavement parking. But for those of you in England, perhaps take a look? act.livingstreets.org.uk/page/189938/...

It's happening! 📢

On Tuesday, MPs will consider an amendment to enable local leaders to ban pavement parking in their area. We need you to help us get this amendment on to the Bill.

Ask your MP to agree to Amendment 265 when it's considered on Tuesday: https://bitly.livingstreets.org.uk/4tMU2Uq

One part of the Swiss Cheese was the gig worker running the red; the other was the pedestrian wearing inappropriate headphones in a city centre and not looking for traffic when their hearing was impaired.

Remove either of those and the near miss wouldn't have happened.

By all means, listen to music while walking, but keep it to earphones, not headphones, and only have it in one ear. Either that or use bone conduction.

There's no such thing as an accident. It's a collection of events that align to result in a collision, also known as the Swiss Cheese model.

However, when you isolate yourself entirely from the world around you, you are unnecessarily putting yourself and others in danger. If it had been a car, they would have been hit; they only avoided being hit *because* it was a bike.

Walking back from the coffee shop this morning, I saw a near miss (less than 10cm) between a gig worker on a bike and a pedestrian. It was a green light for pedestrians, but the only person who was nearly hit was the idiot who had full size headphones. Now let me be clear; it was the rider's fault.

Can we finally agree that burning wood for energy is a terrible idea and won't be carbon neutral, let alone carbon negative, in our lifetimes? BECCS using wood certainly shouldn't qualify as CO₂ removal (CDR).

If I'd been able to treat it as a give way (definitely not advocating for blowing through reds; that's stupid) I could have been well out of their way by the time the light went green for cars.

Getting through a junction ahead of cars means you don't end up with what happened this morning to me; getting to the ASL and then the driver behind aggressively overtaking as the light went green because how dare someone in a bike get in front of them.

1 day ago 6 0 1 0

I think it's a combination of them following the car in front of them & impatience. For a group that claim to love driving, they sure as hell seem to want it to be over as quickly as possible.

I have mixed feelings on people on bikes and reds. I can see the logic in them being treated as give ways.

Reddit posts like this just make me ever more sure that riding a bike on the carriageway in traffic for several lessons should be a mandatory part of getting a driving licence.

It isn't a skill issue; it's an empathy and lack of experience problem.

A car parked on the pavement outside a school, less than 20 metres from where the children were standing yesterday. It is just outside the zigzag zone, but there are double yellow lines and the car is almost entirely on the pavement. The school entrance is just behind.

School drop-off.

Thursday: kids out with the traffic wardens, with nice signs asking parents not to park dangerously.

Friday: parents parking on the pavement outside school.

The perfect illustration of why these types of initiatives are a waste of time. We did several school ‘speedwatch’ days etc. & as soon as you leave more cars are speeding. Pointless. All roads in a whole area outside schools should be fully filtered school streets.

If the IDF killing babies hasn’t put you off yet, maybe the desecration of your prophet’s icon will. 👇

If you think Doug Ford using taxpayer funds to buy his private jet is unrelated to his trying to have jets fly from Toronto's Island Airport, I've got a failed private waterfront spa at Ontario Place, a shuttered Science Centre, and a tunnel under the 401 to sell you.

Nearly 160,000 uninsured cars seized on UK roads Seizure numbers hit a 17-year high as an estimated 300,000 uninsured vehicles are driven each day.

Uninsured driving isn’t victimless. Offenders are 6–7x more likely to be in a fatal crash, and over half are linked to wider criminality—reflecting risk-taking, disregard for the law, or deception. It pushes up costs for honest drivers. Tackling it protects communities.

That said, it’s still absolutely legitimate to refer to the UK as a grouping, just along as you don’t accidentally treat the data for England and Wales as synonymous for the whole of the UK.

It’s an absolute pain in the backside for those of us who live here too 😂

1 day ago 7 0 1 0

To be fair to them, there are three data groupings: England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Each collect data independently from the others and use slightly different metrics. So it isn’t as clean one-to-one as it might seem at first. The census is a good example of that.

Nothing else says pedestrians are third class citizens in the UK than being made to wait at a pelican crossing for so long (because it only changes when there are no cars approaching) that your Apple Watch asks if you finished your walk.

Suburban councillor pushing for policy that imposes on residents of another ward shocker. Perhaps he’d do better by suggesting those who need to drive there perhaps move closer rather than driving from the very edge of the city into the centre.
