Screenshot of an article headlined “Salah Sarsour: A Pillar Taken, A Community That Will Not Yield,” by Dr. Hatem Bazian, dated April 9, 2026. Below the headline is a family photo of a smiling middle-aged man seated on a couch, hugging two young girls in matching white tops and bright pink pants. One girl holds a small toy phone and stretches an arm outward while the other leans into him. Large windows and trees are visible behind them.

Salah Sarsour: A Pillar Taken, A Community That Will Not Yield Dr. Hatem Bazian on ICE's abduction of a beloved community member who played a major role in the local Palestine movement—and how he may have been wrongly targeted because of it.

Salah Sarsour came to the US from the West Bank and built a life for himself as a Palestinian American community leader in Milwaukee. Now, he’s being held captive by ICE.

The Trump administration continues to target Palestinian activists to silence dissent.

Salah Sarsour, a beloved community leader and Palestinian refugee in Milwaukee, was targeted for his activism against the genocide and illegally abducted by ICE.

Salah is a legal permanent resident and should be home with his mother, wife, and six children. Free Salah Sarsour.

I think another way to phrase this is that access to education as curiosity driven inquiry is increasingly predicated upon one’s ability to access private capital.

Why I will not stand for Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day siren A state that commits genocide cannot claim to honor the Holocaust. Each ceremony it holds in its name defiles the memory of the victims.

Deeply moved and unsettled (complimentary) by this essay from Iranian-Jewish Israeli Orly Noy, whom I've admired for years:

the thing about our current moment is that yes, the anti-AI and anti-big tech people are getting very reactive nowadays - but have you seen what they’re *reacting* to?

In “Censorship and Surveillance at US Universities,” Torin Monahan details the expansive apparatus used by university administrations, often following federal or state political pressures, to police pro-Palestine and progressive speech on campuses across the country.

Takano has the power to initiate the process for Trump's removal! If you really truly believe he should be, the answer is impeachment. It's not the 25th Amendment. Pretending it's up to Vance and the Cabinet is a complete dodge. The body that matters here is the one Takano has a vote in, not RFK.

I’ve introduced Articles of Impeachment against Pete Hegseth for violating his oath, endangering U.S. servicemembers, and committing war crimes, including attacks on civilians and a girls’ school in Minab, Iran. Only Congress can declare war; his actions demand immediate removal.

One last spicy lunchtime take: gestures like this matter. It takes bravery that too many Dem leaders in the House will never have. Kudos ✊

have there been similarly culturally pervasive “everyone needs to start using this tech right now” pushes over such a relatively brief time frame as we’re currently seeing with LLMs? (This is a very genuine question)

I’ve always moved through life with such low expectations of men. It’s a perfunctory, predictable thing, like the sun rising in morning 😤😬

I’d say 85% of the men I know, & 100% of cis men, would not confront a man they know who is an abuser. & it’s almost always someone he knows closely, someone who’s abusive power indirectly benefits a lot of other men around him. It’s a grim picture.

It’s so rare that you can feel unequivocally that a parenting strategy was a success. After 4 years of us inventing daycare & school-safe curse words, upon seeing seeing a squirrel invade the bird feeder, our kid screams “LOOK AT THAT LITTLE SQUANCHPANTS” 🤣🤣

The teddy bear
The blast lifted me up and off of the street and tossed me into a stone wall. Crumbling already before any of this. I had remarked not a moment earlier on some of its silly graffiti. We had tea just near here once I had said and thought now again in my cartwheeling. Right over there on the old patio. You remember this place right? When I awoke some time later there came a vibration through the pavement beneath me. The pebbled granite levitating in the dust. Where was my sister? Ok. Ok. Just there. I tried to stand to go to her but my body was no longer under my command. I reached out for her leg all the same to pull her to safety but soon passed out again. Coming to once more and there was the bulldozer. I crawled over the splintered wood and glass an inch at a time but I was too slow. Mere feet away an impossible distance. She was alive. I want you all to know that. For it to be marked down. I saw that she was alive. Watched her slight turn inward before I looked away. Like a child sleeping. I saw the driver seeing her as well and felt something like pity and then an alien guilt. For what we must have done to have made them do this to us. Surely they would regret it later. Surely any person would have to.
