A half day today, and a journey to my granddad's for the night soundtracked by my favourite Lana Del Rey record.
For me, a near-perfect blend of noirish lows and her melodic highs.
Ultraviolence is perfect for sunny day driving.

Every day in 2026, I'm playing and sharing a song that I think is perfect. No extra commentary. No notes. Just the song.
Today's song is The Dandy Warhols' 'Mohammed'.

There really is something indescribable about Another Green World.
My favourite Brian Eno record, it's undeniably Springtime listening, yet heightened by hearing in darkness. But then, doesn't everything here merge with the night?

Oh man that stills looks epic.

Pharoah Sanders | Black Unity
One record. One long-ass song that still feels too short when it comes to an end.
There's so much inspiration - Latin, African, Aborigine, Native American - quite unprepared at that. A melting pot that does what it says on the tin.

That's immense, and some setup you've got too!

Talking Heads: 77
Shaking off the Monday blues with a hefty slice of new wave red goodness. The only thing that goes against the Heads' debut is how even more astounding music was to come.
But still, on its own merits, it's an incredible record.

The Congos | Heart Of The Congos
If my final five was being decided on which album I've listened to the most in the three weeks, then The Congos will be number one at a canter.
Roots reggae royalty on repeat all weekend.

It's Markfield Quarry (Hill Hole) just outside Leicester! Our first visit but loved it.

Eddie Hazel | Games, Dames And Guitar Thangs
P-Funk supremo Hazel's only solo album in his lifetime is an absolute gem - full of his trademark guitar goodness across some original numbers and epic covers (I Want You, California Dreamin').

After 13 years in the wilderness, 202 seconds of lo-fi goodness somehow, stupendously, feels worth the wait.
Tape 05 is unmistakably Boards Of Canada, but with tinges of hope worthy of their long-awaited return.

Bad As Me
Working from home on a Friday has many advantages.
None more so than listening to Tom Waits records all day.
Four eras. Four crackers. One legend.

Like so many people, my journey to jazz hasn't been simple. I appreciated Kind Of Blue and A Love Supreme more than I enjoyed them.
And then came Pharoah Sanders, who opened my ears and mind to a whole new world of possibilities...

Oh man oh man Ricky! Incredibly jealous of this fine slice of wax.
Ah man, forgot about this one when considering this period. Certainly not my favourite PG but still more than worthy of love
Three of us live in this house.
We roughly plan our meals for the week ahead.
Nothing makes me feel like a fat bastard more than the meal plan for Tuesday being nothing simply because I'm not around that night ππ
Absolutely incredible mate. The video on YouTube is as powerful and pertinent as you'd expect too.
Ah yes of course, I remember you saying you were looking forward to getting back to discovering music.
Bone Machine is possibly my favourite, I would say if you like that then everything from Swordfishtrombones to Mule Variations is right up your street - all equally brilliant!
Love it James. Did you ever get to listening to more Tom Waits?
Powerful doesn't even begin to cover it.
Massive Attack's forthright politics and Tom Waits' powerful voice - the Collab we never knew we needed.

There's an argument to be made that the first side of Roxy Music's debut is the best first side ever made.
And then there's the other side, which is also there. Nothing could live up to those first four/five tracks after all...

It's the sort of record that can feel like nothing if not paying attention, but can absolutely hit all the right notes if these introspective songs catch you in the right mood.
Three times out of three, they've done that for me over the last month; each more powerfully so.
In fact, listening Jason Molina's debut alone at night is perfect fodder. Whereas Electric Magnolia is meant to be sung along to on road trips, these aching tunes belong in the company of black skies and as few distractions as possible...

27: Songs: Ohia | S/T (1997)
Starting with The Electric Magnolia Co. makes what came before almost impossible to live up to.
And while this is a much more restrained and at times almost solo affair, it is in no way lesser than its more revered bookend...
