Great piece of analysis. People are going through enough without adding the protests on top of it but sectors are suffering & the government have managed nothing. Even if an election was held tomorrow we have no viable alternatives. That's how the far right gets a hold #speirgorm
i don’t want my appliances to be smart or connect to the internet. i want them to do one mechanical task for 100 years

one thing that’s clear, whether you’re right or left or whatever worldview, is that Irish people want a PROACTIVE government that DOES things, that TELLS them things, that PREPARES for things. the Irish government does absolutely none of this, it does as little as it can do, and nobody likes it.
this government’s approach, for a very long time, has been to project powerlessness in the face of every inconvenience. to blame “global megatrends” as Varadkar did in his goodbye speech. to make the public feel insane for even suggesting that the government can solve problems.
by making a virtue of having no ideas, by presenting itself best option for falling in line with the tide of the world, by pretending that stasis is the same thing as stability, this government has rendered itself irrelevant, unnecessary and ultimately probably despised by more people than not.

There's a lot of talk about the effect that social media has on young people (some of it rightly, tbf) but there is comparatively less on the effect it has on adults and I think "fear of crime" is a big one. True crime podcasts, "danger tourism" to like, London. It's cooking people's brains!

An "AI" or CGI or whatever recreation of a dead performer is a massive, massive insult to them irrespective of what one thinks of the technology, simply because it is a statement that all that matters about the person in question is their likeness, not their actual artistic ability.
it's the one day of the year i get to post this image :0

The parents in the study were interested in the toy's potential to teach language and communication skills. However, their children frequently struggled to converse with it. Gabbo didn't hear their interruptions, talked over them, could not differentiate between child and adult voices and responded awkwardly to declarations of affection. When one five-year-old said, "I love you," to the toy, it replied: "As a friendly reminder, please ensure interactions adhere to the guidelines provided. Let me know how you would like to proceed."
This is so tragic it's actually incredibly funny
me and the other scheming viziers are wearing shoes gifted to us by the king that are way too big. we look ridiculous. the whole court is laughing at us behind our backs. honestly this is a pretty low point for us, the scheming viziers
Right now, if gen AI is particularly good at a task, I think it's most typically a sign that that task is busywork that shouldn't exist. But corporations are conflict averse so, instead of doing anything about that, I think they're going to let the tech multiply the existence of such tasks.
Happy anniversary of accidentally legalised drugs in Ireland day to all who celebrate.
This Is America (as big as a music video could be in 2018 anyways)
Could an empire in decline do THIS? *launches deeply unpopular invasion cementing status as lunatic-led pariah state, its not clear what kind of move i was trying to do*
I genuinely feel crazy when people act like this shit is inappropriate for children's literature, having grown up reading both Jacqueline Wilson and people trying and failing to be as good as Jacqueline Wilson
Some people are responding to this saying this doesn't extend to the more horrific things a child might experience, but I think that's incorrect and misguided. Yes, how you depict it and talk about it matters deeply, but things like abuse, neglect, self-harm, can all absolutely be tackled in kidlit.
