Buy audiobooks & support local bookstores Libro.fm makes it possible for you to buy audiobooks directly through local bookstores.

Adding, if you're after an ethical alternative to Audible, Libro.fm is your ticket. It's a couple bucks more expensive per month I believe, and some big publishers make deals to be Amazon exclusive (reducing the catalogue a little) but from what I see at my end, authors get those extra few bucks.

The Space Ace of Mangleby Flat Audiobook on Libro.fm An asexual and aromantic love storyOn paper, things look fine. Sam Dennon recently inherited significant wealth from his uncle. As a respected architect, Sam spends his days thinking about the family ...

My queer audiobook is on heavy discount at Libro for the next 6 days.

#asexual #autistic Gen X experience of a particular kind of queer; set in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia; does not ignore the covid pandemic (though the narrative ends during lockdown).

See storygraph for CN; all apply.

Yeah I think that counts as HSD.

However I’m not a medical specialist who can actually do anything useful with that.

Wish (non eugenic) folk would just start thinking of Autism in terms of a syndrome rather than as just a brain difference. Then we’d get the medical care we need.

I see you wear glasses. You don’t have astigmatism?

You’re lucky not to have reflux?

(HSD is not just a spectrum of mobility, despite the name)

A specialist who works with people who are almost exclusively Autistic asked me that. I said no. He asked me again as if to catch me out.

Anyway if you’ve got the stretchiness of HSD that can affect the vocal cords in a musically useful way, apparently.

Anyway. I can. But *should* I.

I’m 100% sure the homophobic Jean would have despised the modern concept of asexuality as queer and I wish she’d lived to 120 to see it.

Meanwhile, she’s the reason folk sometimes think asexual headcanons & remakes are… homophobic.

Personally, asexual Sherlock makes sense.

He’s queer either way.

When you push a sweeping law, it’s the fringe cases that you *must* consider. The ‘normies’ matter much less, because they’re generally OK anyway.

Chinese robot beats human half-marathon world record The winner from a Chinese smartphone maker reportedly completed the 21-kilometre race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds.

This running style is somehow similar to the Cliff Young Shuffle.

Yeah, my home country is Aotearoa and it has likely changed since last century when I graduated.

Even if you didn’t pass your high school exams, that resets at the age of 25. High school marks no longer needed.

This gives people who struggled in high school a second chance.

In my home country you pass your senior high school exams, you get into university. There’s none of this letters of recommendation, inspirational essay, show commitment to your community extracurricular networking bullshit.

Highly recommend.

There is a seventeen hour extended edition. It gets one star on eBay and is a good price as a result.

What if you do a train jigsaw puzzle while listening to an audiobook set on the Ghan in front of that slow tv show that was on SBS a while back and which you can probably get a hold of somehow: basically cameras stuck to the Ghan, alternating now and again between them. It’s very boring I mean calm

Yes. This is Australia’s top guy. There was no one to ask beyond him.

However there are occupational therapists who know a lot about it and who get it and that’s where my own info comes from.

Gotta look for an EDS specialist OT though.

By the way I did express frustration to a medical specialist that there’s no word to describe what you just described and his response was, “Well there’s not, so there’s no point dwelling on it.”

Which is fine to say when it doesn’t affect someone personally.

*I had not “dwelt”

Doesn’t HSD cover that?

I’m not sure all professionals understand the meaning of “spectrum” and that the hypermobile spectrum doesn’t just refer to bendiness but also, say, stretchiness, which is what I seem to have. (Astigmatism, reflux etc.)

You can fuck right off with this bad taste “joke” thanks Joan.

Jim in mid-stretch, during the Mid Cornwall Cat Stretching Championships, 2023, in which he came first in all 13 categories.

One of Jim's great skills is stretching. He is better at this than any other cat. People comment on it all the time when they visit our house.

"Holy shit, man, your cat is REALLY fucking good at stretching," they will remark,

"That's because he is orange," we will reply. "And because he's Jim."

Which shade of white is right? Dentists explain the teeth colours Experts say there are many factors that influence how white a tooth appears, and it's not just about whitening or what we’re eating.

This applies to so many things...

"Tooth colour also varies with age, says Laurence Walsh, an emeritus professor from the University of Queensland's School of Dentistry. He says baby teeth look "unusually white" because of their mineral structure."

Wish I could attend appointments with you and advocate. As I do for my son with MEcfs.

It’s always risky though because some doctors are very self important and do not take pushback.

That was me for my entire life (it’s even why I moved to Australia) but that changed in my mid forties.

So… there’s something to hopefully look forward to lol

Same.

A century ago people cared more for children. At least, some people did. Or maybe people just had more respect for teachers (who care the most about children) and we listened to their suggestions.

Corporate powers want you to blame school closings (that saved lives!) but it’s really long covid, the disease they cavalierly want you to risk catching all the time
