If you design for cars, you get cars.
If you design for people, you get people.

It's actually that simple.

City transportation official opts for white line and signage instead of gate to keep their baby off the stairs.

Crossing the street with my daughter to get to the park, I waved at the approaching driver. He didn’t slow at all because he was staring at his phone.

How will I ever feel safe letting her walk to the park alone, even though it’s just a few blocks away?

We need to make our streets safer!

Happened to me in my vehicle in a 4-way stop. It was my turn, as I drove into the intersection a pedestrian on the cross street waved a car through... Driver reacted and pulled into the intersection without thinking and almost hit me. Wave NO ONE through in any situation. Ever.

I dream that one day drivers will have the same patience for me crossing the street that they do waiting for a parking spot 10 feet closer to the mall entrance.

I never want to see another human trot across a crosswalk, hurry their stroller/kids/mobility device or rush a senior resident through an intersection or any road. It’s ridiculous, like we’ve been gifted some incredible act of patience and kindness from our auto overlords.

Once again for the people in the back. Safer bike routes mean more people will bike. More people biking means fewer driving. Fewer driving means faster, less congested driving for those who do. Why are win/win solutions so hard to digest?

I've had so many near-misses with my kids: drivers who turn right on red, run stop signs, are looking at their phones instead of the crosswalk... I worry about the worst-case scenarios but also about the burden of anxiety shouldered by tiny children who should be able to walk & bike in safety

We often take our Golden to Butchart Gardens, our nearby tourist attraction, so she can have big reunions with complete strangers! 🐾

Hey, #yyj media, just outta curiosity, does this not look like an ethically questionable number of whale-watching boats all chasing down a transient orca pod?

Because this shit ain't cool.

[Marine tracker information from just before noon today as a pod of transient orcas made their way through.]

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

It’s concerning me how overconfident people who want Pierre Poilievre to lose are sounding right now.

It’s reminding me how sure people were that Trump would lose.

Dont let Trump win in Canada.

POLLS DON’T WIN ELECTIONS. TURNOUT DOES.

Don’t assume.

Vote.

Anything that, in ANY way normalizes this threat is NOT ON. Not a whisper of normalizing... Never. Unthinkable.

Terrible lapse in judgement IMO.

I have seen these while on SAR tasks in the middle of nowhere, where we've been dropped off by helicopter. The type of task where you think the subject might be dead so you investigate sparkly things in the bush.

Stop using helium balloons.

There’s no evidence that vaccines cause autism.

You know what there IS evidence of, when it comes to causal factors for autism?

Air pollution.

So cars. Including tail pipes, tire particles, brake pads.

And fossil fuel energy-related pollution, industrial pollution, etc.

And not just autism.

Graphics fill of statistics on the efficiency or in efficiency of cars

Graphics fill of statistics on the efficiency or in efficiency of cars

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?
